Does anyone know where you can get this bluray at a decent price? This site lists it at 18 dollars at best buy but there site doesn't have this bluray. Amazon and Ebay have it for way too much. Anyone know where I can find it?

It's oop and so rare and expensive. Good movie though! One of the classic Westerns of the 50s. The PQ of the blu-ray is only so so, I have to say. At times it's maybe a 4, but sometimes it dips down to 2.5 imho. I think they used the best elements they have, so it may be as good as it gets. It's such a good Western, however, that the pq doesn't stop it from being enjoyable...

Good luck in your search. Be prepared to pay top $ unless you find someone who just doesn't want it. Prices will slowly keep going higher unless it comes back in print....

The last 2 listings on ebay went for around $35... that's not that expensive.

I know because I would part with mine if it was selling for, say, $100.

The biggest fault with this bluray isn't the elements so much as it is the early WB compression and lossy audio. Aside from that the disc is good. I'm satisfied with it.

Yeah, I think I'm with you--it's part of my collection of classic Westerns. But if someone offered silly money I think I could give it up...

What's interesting to me is that they thought of this film as a rebuttal to High Noon, the Gary Cooper classic from 1950.

I like both films about equally. They're both good. Am I missing something?

I tend to like Rio Braco more than High Noon, then again I like El Dorado (essentially a remake of Rio Bravo a few years later) better than both.

As I understand it, Rio Bravo was a response to High Noon due to in High Noon, the sheriff asks for help from townspeople. In Rio, there was no way that John Wayne was asking for help. Apparently both Wayne and Hawks were flabbergasted that Gary Cooper's character would ask for help. I, too, prefer El Dorado as well though I love all three and wish HN and ED were on blu.

HN has a great HD master up at netflix streaming, which makes me think the blu-ray is coming out at some point.

Haven't seen El Dorado. I'll look for it...

Picked up mine just recently at Amazon/Canada for $23 from a Marketplace Seller which was actually located in New Jersey. Still got tagged for $7 shipping though, so final cost was $30.

Wow. That's pretty crazy. I got mine on DVD2blu for $4.95. At one time they were basically giving it away.

How long has it been OOP? I should start paying attention more to these titles that go OOP. In some cases to not "miss out" on something I want, or in others to maybe sell if the price gets high enough.

buy a cheap HD DVD version of it, and trade it in on WB's redtoblu program

had a friend get rio bravo just a few weeks ago from them

paid $11 for a lot of 10 movies, traded 7 of them in to WB

Wow, I think I paid $12.99 for this a while back. Guess you never know when things go up in value. Good disc though.

RIO BRAVO was the very first Blu-ray I ever watched when I got a Blu-ray player and HD projector way back in 2008. Picture quality was a bit grainy but very sharp and with deep, rich color -- and at around 7 feet wide looked as good as a really good 16mm film print or a pretty good 35mm print. The Blu-ray cost me about $21 back at that time, and later dropped to about half that price or less. I expect there may still be some stores with copies in stock at low prices, but if it's out of print good luck finding a copy at a reasonable price! You can still find THE SEARCHERS for $8 to $10 these days, and I also paid $21 for that a few years ago. In today's marketing mentality and tight economy, if a retailer doesn't sell its copies within a few months it wants to get rid of them, and typically marks them down until they're gone, so if you see it for sale either in a store or on line and want a copy, it's a generally good idea to buy it while you can. Older movies, however famous their stars, most likely have much smaller runs than last month's Hollywood hits.

I missed this when Target had them and still kicking myself. Hopefully they'll re-release it or give us a better transfer down the line. Until then, I'll watch The Searchers

I feel confident this will come back out at some point. I really hope Warner creates a new bd because imo this bd is very poor. Now it was a very early release and that is part of the problem, but it does not look filmlike at all imo.
Looks very plasticized and videolike.
it's a great film, and it really bother me how poor this bd came out.

I am pretty sure I passed on this at $7.99 at some point on Amazon. This was before I really started getting into Westerns. I don't usually acquire discs based on a fear that they may go completely OOP and never come back, but I am a little nervous about this one and will probably pick it up from Red2Blu. Like a lot of people, I imagine, I completely forgot this was still going on. I know I have the link somewhere, just need to dig it up.

There is currently three auctions up for it on eBay one is currently bidding at $15.50(Free Shipping) it goes off in a little over 4 days.

one is $39.95 (Buy It Now) and another $48.00 (Buy It Now or Best Offer)
