About time. I was in the process of dumping my DVDs regardless. Sadly, seasons 1-6 are not listed on Amazon yet for Blu-Ray.

I hope its not expensive also, but looking at the Battlestar Galactica and LOST Blu-Ray complete series sets:

(from Amazon.com)

Battlestar Galactica Series Set (Season 1-4) - $299.98 MSRP but listed at $209.99 currently

LOST Complete Series Set (Season 1-6) - $279.99 MSRP, but listed at $194.99 currently

with 24 there are 8 seasons and 24 Redemption Movie which in total has more content then BSG and LOST (in terms of seasons) has to make the MSRP at least $299.99, but I am thinking maybe even $349.99 MSRP or more.

either way, I love 24, and will buy it day 1 regardless

Don't expect individual volumes until next year based on the last I heard, it was awhile ago so my information may be out of date

It may not actually be the complete series on Blu-ray, it sound more like Season 8 on Blu-ray, and a DVD complete set.

It is ambiguous. If that is the case that it is only season 8, I'll be most disappointed.

Yeah hate to put a damper on things but it sounds like the complete series is DVD only while season 8 is both.

Honestly, with the work load to get a full Blu-ray set done by Dec 7th would swamp a facility... You're talking 7 full seasons of 24 episodes to complete by the end of October, at the latest.

Assuming all season run approximately 1000 minutes, and based on Season 7's specification. That's at least 3 linear passes each (English 5.1, English 5.1 with English Subtitles and English 5.1 with Spanish subtitles) you're talking 3000 minutes or 50 hours of linear plays per set... Multiply that by 1.5 for logging errors and re-watching for fixes... Say roughly 75 hours per set just to view each set.

Add another 40 hours minimum for navigation for navigation checks...

115 hours a set X 7... You're looking at nearly 800 Hours of work, in between the summer crush of films for the fourth quarter... I just don't see this happening.

And this does not cover the video capture, video compression or authoring of the disc. Everything I listed above is strictly QC.

(Edit) All that being said, I'd love to see the other seasons of 24 on Blu-ray, but the practicality of a full series in time for Christmas...?

I will be all over this on day one. Does anyone have an idea of why the release strategy has changed this year? I thought it was great that they released season 7 the day after the finale last year.

Season 7 had pretty much been completely shot by early January 2009. Everything was in the can and ready to go.

It may have also been partially motivated by the fact that the show had been off the air for a year and a half.

I hope they do offer a complete series set on Blu-ray. Although I wouldn't mind individual season sets as well since I could then skip owning Season 6 like I did on DVD.

I'll be buying. If it's a complete series, I'll buy that. If not, season 8 it is.

Season 8 on BD has a list price for $48.99 right now on Amazon.

That said, I still haven't watched my Season 6 and 7 DVDs yet. Quite frankly, I hope the series does get a complete series or single season release set on BD, 'cause I'd definately like to dump my DvD sets for a set of uniform discs.

Remember Fox re-released Season 1 as a Special Edition when the show was off the air, and they probably did an HD pass on that season as well. Plus Season 6 was once announced for Blu, but with the writer's strike and the season not being the strongest; it was put on hold. And the series was announced as ending back in March, so I'm sure ole Rupert Murdoch saw the dollar signs and had this boxset prep work started so he can have more of our money during the Christmas season, along with the Alien boxset. When you think about it, Fox hasn't released much in the way of new movies in theaters for Quarter 1, but then again do you blame them, they we're still bringing in cash from Avatar and Alvin. Sure Rupert will get the diehards for Christmas, and he'll get the holdouts when the 24 movie hits theaters.

They would probably re-release seasons 1 - 6 on blu-ray in individual seasons before the complete series in blu-ray comes out.

that's saying they haven't even started the process on any of the seasons (other than S7), which i would hope isn't the case. they should've been working on this (at least S1) for months by now...

Actually, the trend is going away from that.

For example, right now you can get all of Battlestar Galactica on Blu, but only a portion of the seasons are available individually.

DVD TV shows are starting to do this as well. For smaller shows that don't sell as well, companies are starting to just put the whole thing out as a series to get the most bang. Chances are, if you want Season 1 of Gimmie A Break, you are enough of a fan to want the whole thing (to use one recently announced example, the whole series is coming out on DVD but only the first two are out individually). Just about every series sell less sets from each season as time goes on, which this helps the studios avoid.

I think we'll see a lot of this in the future - which I really don't mind. There are very few sets out there that I'd only want to partially own, so if they ask me to pony up $200 at once to get everything I want, I wouldn't mind.

Yeah, similar to Ally McBeal.
