Default Star Trek TNG Season 4 and "Redemption" Blu-rays July 30

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4 Blu-ray

Star Trek: The Next Generation, Redemption Blu-ray

Here's what we know:

Quote:
We can now confirm some further information about the upcoming release of Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season Four on Blu-ray.
  • Season Four is scheduled for release in July 2013 (we expect the first half of the month rather than the last half).
  • Remastering of Season Four was carried out by post-production house Modern Video. We understand CBS Digital was close at hand to help Modern reach a more balanced and consistent look.
  • Max Gabl - the artist responsible for creating new planets for CBS Digital (Seasons 1 and 3) - also lent his talents to the planets in Season 4.
  • The set will carry another bumper collection of VAM including a brand new multi-part documentary, gag reel sourced from the original 35mm camera negative, audio commentaries on multiple episodes, deleted scenes (see our original report on these) and a special Art Department reunion featuring Herman Zimmerman, Doug Drexler, Mike & Denise Okuda, Rick Sternbach and Dan Curry.
In addition, there will be another standalone release, featuring the S4/S5 two-parter, "Redemption".

Quote:
The disc also includes audio commentaries from writer-producer Ronald D. Moore and visual effects artists Mike and Denise Okuda, as well as an exclusive documentary called “Survive and Succeed: An Empire at War.” In it, all-new interviews with Moore, Michael Dorn, Robert O’Reilly and Gwynyth Walsh shed light on the Klingons and their evolution/mythology as explored on TNG.

This is what I'm hoping. Or how about a feature length Encounter At Farpoint / All Good Things double pack?

Its been hard to hold off on the individual seasons. They are cranking them out pretty fast so I think I can wait for the inevitable complete series set. Maybe 3rd or 4th quarter 2014?

I'd buy that.

Question for you seasoned Trek owners: how do the steaming HD episodes on Amazon compare to the Blu-rays? I've watched one episode and thought it looked pretty good.

I bought the streaming version of 11001001 from Amazon, and the compressed videos offered on Amazon are nothing compared to the actual blu-rays... and in the end buying them all will cost about the same as the blu-rays, if not more... since many of the retail prices are really cheap compared to the list price... I mean, $2 and something per episode on Amazon if you don't have a premium account, I think it's $2.40 per episode... would total you $62.40 for 26 episodes...

Thanks for the response! I figured the difference would be notable. I'll be buying the BOBW disc next week to finally see how it looks on BD.

BTW, seasons 1 & 2 are available for free in HD with Amazon Prime.

Well, Adam over at TrekCore has uncompressed screencaps in his review...

For example:

Well, "free" in that you don't have to pay for them when you get them, they're paid for via Amazon's Prime premium membership... so in a round about way, you're paying for them.

I guess it is becoming a trend... releasing those cliffhangers as a separate disc too.

I haven't decided about "Best of Both Worlds" but I know I won't be doing it for every remaining season.

Oh, and is it just me... or are all the sets going to be green boxes now?

What happened to the rainbow of colors? Seems like every picture of the next season I see is another green!

As said on the page, the box art is subject to change... It went Red (Season 1), Yellow-Orange (Season 2), Yellow which changed to a less than pretty cammo green color (Season 3), now this sea green-teal color (Season 4)...

I think they're just running the same colours as the re-release DVD sets here in Australia/UK:

In this case they seem to be reordering them into a flowing colour gamut instead of the all over the place approach with the DVDs. I wouldn't be surprised if the end result was something like this:

Burgundy > Citrine > Fern Green > Mint > Sky Blue > Navy Blue > Amethyst

That sounds likely. I don't know why it upsets me that the colors have been re-assigned but it does.
