Typo in thread name. Should be "For Colored Girls", not "Four Colored Girls".
I never saw this movie, but I'm not really interested in it. I'm skipping.

I heard it was pretty terrible, Tyler Perry needs to stop making movies.

The typo is more hilarious than anything he's ever done!

I assume you are not black.. so of course it won't really appeal to your liking. But his movies make money and are very popular. I happen to like some of his movies. I may rent this one.

That comes off as very racist. I am not black, and I also think his movies are extremely generic and cliched. I doubt the color of my skin would change that. I happen to know black people who feel the same way. What your statement seems to indirectly say is that black people lower their standards of what makes a good film because it revolves around their specific interests. I don't think this is the case (some of the time). I think the reason his films are so successful is the same reason Transformers 2 is successful. Some people don't really need originality or depth in a movie; they simply want to be entertained for two hours.

My point is that yes, you're right; he appeals to people of certain ethnic backgrounds. However, so does Spike Lee and his films actually have substance and depth. I also LOVE Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou, and it has nothing to do with my background. I like good art, no matter what form, and hate cliched money-making movies that insult the viewer's intelligence.

My mom and wife love them though.

You may even see it in my collection because of that one day, lol.

Very true... and I now see where you are getting at. Sometimes a great story (no matter the target audience) can attract certain viewers if the story is good.

Well I AM BLACK and this movie along with his other movies/tv shows is GARBAGE. I'm not hating on Mr. Perry because if you find an angle to make money I say milk it till it's dry. The only movie under his belt that I felt was meaningful was Precious. I'm as black as they come but the whole melo-drama/comedy mix is not my thing. I would love to hear other peoples opinions/thoughts on this film as well as his other endeavors. But don't assault someone and assume they're not black because they don't like Drag Queen Perry's films

Netflix'd it, it'll be here in the morning. The review was really fair in pointing out what worked and what didn't work so I'm looking forward to watching it.

There wasn't a single copy of this to be found (dvd or blu) at Best Buy when I went to pick up my Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 pre-order today. Usually Lionsgate Blus are overflowing the racks a week after release.

I passed on this and will rent, but this story is bigger than Perry. And alot of older or knowledgeable folks are curious to see how he interprets the classic play, fan of Perry or not.
