I'm surprised Disney hasn't announced a release date. Any news or why there's a hold up given they usually announce the blu-ray within a few weeks of its theatrical release.

Disney just released it digitally on Tuesday this week (August 13), but as far as I can tell there's nothing to indicate *any* plans to release it on physical media (which is a shame because I was planning on buying it). I've actually been kind of worried about this for the past few months. Owning movies digitally has become much more common, and I'm worried studios may prefer that because A. It saves money because they don't have to manufacture physical material and B. It makes it possible for studios to have much more control over the films people own e.g. they can disable access at any time or upload a different version of a film and make that one the only one people can watch. Disney may just have decided that a movie that grossed less than $10 million domestically doesn't need a Blu-ray release and anyone who wants it has to buy digital.
Or maybe they're doing what studios do sometimes and they're planning on releasing the Blu-ray roughly a year from when the movie came out (i.e. next Earth Day 2020) to increase sales. |
