Default My Koi and Goldfish

In June of 2013 I stocked my pond at work with 1 Koi and 30 Goldfish. This is the Koi. There's somewhere around 500 goldfish now.

very nice

we have a small pond in our backyard we put in quite a few years ago.

we had a koi in it along with the goldfish, but the koi died and now all we have are the goldfish.

and those things breed like dang rabbits (or maybe rabbits breed like goldfish...). every year we have to find someone who can take a few off our hands so as not to have too many for the size of our pond.

That's awesome. This pond is about an acre so it will be years before I have to worry about overstocking. They also share it with a about 3-4 large turtles and some ducks. The pond is inclined from 3 ft. to about 12 ft. so I don't have to worry about Egrets and Cranes eating them.

a few years back we had a crane that would stop by our pond and take some of the fish. we had to put a large net over it so it couldn't get to them. after a while, it stopped coming around and we haven't seen it since.

Just fought it out with a Great Egret over the past week or so. I finally found some Bird-b-Gone in one of our supply closets and put it around the pond this morning. Luckily, he was gone by lunch.

Speaking of goldfish are you familiar with the work of Japanese artist Fukahori Riusuke?

I highly recommend checking out his work, I saw him live in London back in December for a talk and live demonstration and it was incredible.

Here is one of his works

It's a 2D painting with this resin poured ontop to give it this 3D look.

Well, my egret has returned. However, I do stand with my fish when I feed them to prevent an easy meal for him.
