Disney STAR WARS: Return of the Jedi - 40th anniversary re-release

Many movie chains will be playing it from April 28th. It does not look like it's going to be getting any premium screens, tho - what a wasted opportunity if that's the case....

They did this for Empire. Wasn't in that many theaters so I'm guessing this will be likewise.

I hope they re-release the original Star Wars (1977) movie again soon since I never saw it on the big screen. I saw the Empire Strikes Back when they re-released it in 2020. I might go see Return of the Jedi if it’s playing at my Showcase Cinemas.

Thumbs up

April 28th. That's cool.
This was the first movie I ever saw twice in a theater as a tiny kid back then in 1983. All the stuff with Jabba and his Palace is amazing with Jabba and all the creatures, the Sarlacc Pit monster and the action. The Rebels and Luke setting all that up was great! One of the most epic introductions I've seen to a movie.

Then the film lands on Endor, with the Biker Scouts and those awesome Speeder Bikes, inspiring me to want a motorcycle. Great action in the forest, and the Ewoks were entertaining too.

Then the final battle on the Death Star 2 with Vader, Luke and the Emperor. That exchange of conflict was excellent.

I was hoping they would've made a strong 3D conversion, but it never happened.

I wish they kept the original Jabba song in there, and then added the new one after that for two songs when Jabba says play it again! Then they would start playing the 2nd new song instead, and Jabba would enjoy it and not protest.

I have this on VHS Special Edition, VHS old original degraded copy, DVD special edition, and the 4K blu ray Return of the Jedi.
I'll rewatch it on my 100" projector. The movie hit theaters April 28th? I thought it was May 5th. I guess the 28th was the Hollywood premiere or something.

This is easily my favorite movie of all time, though Star Wars New Hope I like just about equally and would give the edge to that film for the story.

Just a heads up, The dcp for empire was low res , looked terrible. It was the first time I’d seen it that film wasn’t projected, looked like they were projecting a dvd, if that good.

It was during pandemic when Los Angeles county was closed, but Orange County open so I drove there twice to see it. Bc there were very few movies, it was in a great theater. And only $5

I’ll still go see ROTJ

It sucks that every time they do events like this it's always in the smallest screens. Give me Dolby or something nice and I'd go.

I missed out on The Empire Strikes Back re-release in 2020 because all the theatres near me were still closed. I definitely would have went to see it. I will see Return of the Jedi however!

I assume this will be the Special Edition. Regal near me isn't showing it but AMC is in a standard digital format. Would've been nice in a premium format. I'm hoping that for Star Wars' 50th anniversary they re-release the original trilogy in their original theatrical versions in Dolby Cinema and IMAX and heck, even a 3D option! (One can hope, right?)

Awesome. One of the best Star Wars films ever and the conclusion to the Skywalker saga! I’m going to see what local options I have to view this at a theater.

TESB played in a drive-in theater not far from us. Not ideal, so we didn't go. We did go to a screening of ROTK:EE this weekend, which was pretty epic. Looking forward to taking my 11-year-old daughter to see ROTJ in a few weeks.

Dumb movie. Hated it as a kid when it came out. Hate it now. Ewoks. Song and dance numbers. To make it worse, they take what was supposed to be a big baddie, and gets accidentally dumped into a sarlac pit by a blind guy. Easily the worst third movie in Star Wars.

I'll watch this in the comfort of my home...

There's a reason I bought the VHS, DVD, Original uncut trilogy on DVD, bluray, 4K, redeemed digital codes and then there's all the packaging, three original movies, original trilogy movies plus prequel. orignial trilogy uncut movies, steelbooks of the original 9, Target Special Editions, 4K with slipcovers, the Skywalker Saga box with new remastered blurays only etc.

There was a jazz band in the original Star Wars, a trooper banging his helmet on a door and the big baddie getting sent out of control by a clumsy pilot.
