Quote:
Steep drops players onto the peaks of mountains, with exhilarating experiences that include skiing, wingsuiting, snowboarding, and paragliding. These sports establish an incredible level of freedom to explore the game’s open world, allowing players to choose the way they travel and play. Steep’s vast playground offers a wide range of activities that give players the opportunity to discover, compete, pull off crazy stunts, and more. Players can meet with friends from all over the world to create unique and memorable moments.

In Steep, players can use the innovative trail feature to relive their most inspiring rides and trailblazing achievements, and share them on social networks with friends. Along with sharing ride replays, players can also use this feature to challenge friends to outrace them on a shared path, create epic stunts or set out to discover the massive mountain playground.

“Along with Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Kiev, we used our significant online and multiplayer expertise to create a game that captures the excitement and adrenaline we feel when we explore the snowy mountains surrounding us,” said Rebecka Coutaz, studio manager at Ubisoft Annecy.

“We love seeing videos of adventures and stunts that riders from all over the world share on social media,” added Igor Manceau, Creative Director at Ubisoft. “Steep’s open-world and wealth of multiplayer activities were built to inspire this type of creativity. We can’t wait to see what players will discover and share when they first experience Steep.”

In addition to exploring the Alps, Steep riders will be able to travel across the world and traverse the majestic slopes of Alaska, available as a free update after launch.

Steep comes out in December. Why? Has Ubisoft not seen that games do not sell well in that month?

I don't think it's that big of a deal, Ubisoft has done it plenty of times - Far Cry 4, The Crew, Rainbow Six Siege. I don't know that any of those sold gangbusters, but a new IP probably isn't going to anyway. Obviously they are content with December release. Plus it's winter time, so I guess they want that timing for a winter action sports game.

I could see myself getting this, maybe at a reduced price in the January sales.

Far Cry 4 came out in November. Rainbow Six did alright, likely bc of the Tomy Clancy name but The Crew came out in Dec and didnt sell that well at launch. Im not sure what their release schedule is for this year but a release date in Nov would have been better before that holiday sales push which this miss.

Ubisoft already had Watch Dogs 2 releasing in November, and that's their flagship release. They want to go all in with marketing for that title, release it, then they can market Steep. If Steep was in November, it would get BURIED in WD2 marketing from Ubisoft. I think it'll be fine. Or it'll be delayed lol.

Possibly but with one being a sports game and the other being an open world action, they couldnt be anymore different. I think both could have released in Nov and it had not made much differnece. But I can see your rationale

Steep reminds me of Shaun White's Snowboarding, which was also an open map snow sledding game, though I wasn't able to enjoy it for long due to some limiting design choices of the game itself. Steep hopefully offers more freedom and options, though I can imagine it'll appeal mostly to fans of the sport.

This looks sick!

The concept, not the graphics, remember it's Ubisoft.
Should be a fun game.

The suit gliding looks great. I wasn't expecting that.
They showed a shot with the players walking from a lodge or something, so if the player can detach from the skis or snowboard and walk around at any time there's less steep conditions, that would be a nice way to expand the exploration part of the game.

I heard a pro snowboarder woman was doing a commercial recently to promote Steep and died in an avalanche in real life sadly. Once you get buried in snow, you probably can't move as the snow packs in with all that weight and becomes like cement.

I can't remember if I signed up for the alpha or not, but I didn't get a code.

I'd be interested if this game offers all of the fun ways to travel down the mountain, but also the option to explore on foot for the flatter locations too. Even so, I wouldn't mind sliding down the mountains on a sled either. Not enough games that offer sledding in the snow. When you reach the bottom, you would be able to leave the sled or carry it with you, and manually walk all the way back to the top if you wanted to, or just warp, or take a nice scenic ride on the ski lift carts.

Steep 15 minutes of gameplay

Shawn White's Snowboarding attempted something like that, but the mountain wasn't very large in scale and not very much to explore.

You can still go to the Ubisoft website and sign up. You will be placed on a waiting list for additional codes. I wasn't in the initial batch of codes but my account shows that I'm still on the list. Not sure if/when they are going to release more codes though.
