Default Pete Walker Collection

The Pete Walker Collection Blu-ray REVIEW

Comes out in November from Redemption. Includes House of Whipcord, Die Screaming Marianne, The Comeback, and Schizo. Oddly enough, as a huge horror buff, I haven't seen any Pete Walker Films. Would anyone recommend a blind buy on this? I love Italian horror and giallos, but I'm not huge into classic Hammer horror. Not quite sure where these films fall...

A bit more influenced by Hitchcock, I think, with themes about the breakdown and failure of society. A fair chunk of the usual exploitation elements, some mysterious elements here and there, very British too. THE COMEBACK has some (sort of) supernatural themes, but Walker generally stuck with realism (though pretty far out there at times). FRIGHTMARE is my favorite of his, along with HOUSE OF WHIPCORD. SCHIZO is pretty good too. DSM was alright, THE COMEBACK didn't affect me much before, but I knowingly need to give it another shot since I really dig his stuff in general.

I *love* FRIGHTMARE and HOUSE OF WHIPCORD. They are so wonderfully weird. I hope the former fill see a BD release down the road, too. Can't remember if I have seen other of Walker's films, though I do own the coffin box that was released on DVD in the UK years back. But FRIGHTMARE and HOUSE OF WHIPCORD alone made such an impression on me that I went out to buy the fine little book on Walker published by FAB Press.

I think FRIGHTMARE is strong enough to be a stand-alone release. Here's the trailer, it definitely plays up the exploitative aspects and makes you think it's all about killer grannies (some spoilers, naturally - you've been warned!):

Frightmare is one of his best along with The Confessional aka, The House Of Mortal Sin. Its a shame neither film is in the set. I hope single releases are forthcoming.

Frightmare and House of Mortal Sin, along with Whipcord are my favourites of his.

This set has only has one of those, and 2 films that I'm not keen on. Never seen Schizo.

If any of my fellow blu-ray members want to ditch their copy of "Die Screaming Marianne", I'd be more than happy to take it off their hands. Its the only movie in the collection I want. Susan George go-go dancing in HD is pure gold.

Nothing on the quality of this set? I figured people would have received copies by now.

I am a fan of Walker. The Comeback is my personal favorite, someone called this one supernatural but its actually a British Giallo film.

I too would love to hear a good review from someone here who has the set.

Looks like a good box but a bit pricey and would have been better with Frightmare and House Of Mortal Sin included. If you want to know more about Pete Walker this book is well worth the money http://www.fabpress.com/perl/search.pl?CO=FAB016

Yes, absolutely. Great little book that gets another recommendation from me!

As for Frightmare, Kino have said on their FB that it will be included in the next box coming in the spring.

What kind of packaging does this set have, are all the films in one box, or is it a collection of the individual releases?

I can't speak for Vol. 1 but I own Vol. 2 and all of the discs are inside one case with a slip box.
