United Kingdom Monsters (Vertigo Films)

Bit early (although USA has February 2011) as there's no Blu-ray (consider this a heads up and placeholder!) of this yet but it'll be released by Vertigo (same folk who did the excellent Bronson (with Inception's Tom Hardy of course)

Seen a preview of this last week and it blew me away. I love 'end of the world' type films anyway but this was very quiet, understated and had a riveting story really. Really top notch tiny cast too especially Scoot McNairy whom I'd never heard of before.

Never heard of the director Gareth Edwards either but I'm sure we'll see more of him soon.

May have just sneaked into my year's top 10 favourites. Just.

.....Really? People are STILL making threads with just the movie as the title for films that don't have blu-ray announcements yet?

That's probably the dumbest reply and use of English I've seen in this forum.

Anything that supports the forthcoming Blu-ray release of a film is a good idea. That's what this forum is about.

I admit, it was poorly written, and for that I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of clicking threads and expecting a release date, only to find that it's just a placeholder.

Maybe it's just me.

EDIT -

Were there a release date -as an "Expert Member"- I'm sure I'd put it in the title and I did put in a release date -as it happens- for the USA release. Half way there.

I don't mind people being critical but try and make sense and not be cryptic with ".....Really?". FFS.

And my post has lots of great info and is supporting the film. Now had I put in a title that required a question mark that would be different. I don't like those either.

When we (that means us) have a date we will add it. In the meantime let's get back to the film and get away from the sematics...

it was different and kept me entertained even though not much happened.
I went in thinking it was gonna be a action filled flick and usually u get quite disappointed wen its the opposite, but I didnt really feel like that as it kept me attention and was well made.

samdaman94 -no worries dude I'm suffering from a wee bit of cabin fever as I've been snowed in for 5 days.

-

The reason I loved the film is because it's understated and so darn quiet. There's space for you to think about all the stuff that's happening.

It's also intelligent in the sense you have to fill in a few spaces with your own opinions and thoughts too.

There's nothing IN-YOUR-FACE about it really.

The Driver:

While your intention to inform the community about this film is admirable, we should only be opening threads here if there is a specific date, or at least an approximate month (Q1/Q2, etc.), announced or pre-announced by the distributor. So place-holders are not a good idea because the administrative team gets plenty of reports from people who, rightfully or not, get upset with these types of threads. This said, fine, let's leave this thread here now, but please consider what I have noted above

Hey, thanks for the info

That sounds interesting. I might go for that if it's a nice looking item. I don't like the UK artwork:

...at all. Looks like the front of a McDonalds hamburger box.

BTW, if people liked Scoot McNairy he worked with Vertigo also in the excellent In Search Of A Midnight Kiss I mention it because it's £2.99 and it's another great wee film.

The UK disc is the correct black & white unlike the North American release which is in colour.

I'd like the UK Blu-ray of Monsters so will hang off until I see reviews of the Germany/USA versions. The director was on Film 2010 the other night http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wgq73

Pre-order is up at Amazon with a release date of 18/04/2011. It's being released by Momentum.

Monsters Blu-ray

I presume that's the DVD artwork, so it'll be slightly cropped/more or less the same for the Blu-ray.

Totally. And that updated artwork is nicely put together. I really wanted to see this at the cinema, heard nothing but good about it.
