Default Rugrats season 2 now complete on Amazon

In case anyone was wondering. This is definitely one of my favorite cartoons from when I was growing up, and for the longest time the Amazon-exclusive DVDs were missing the second half of season 2. They just finally started offering the full season on DVD.

Here's the link:

The Rugrats season sets from Beyond Home Entertainment in Australia are a better option, since they are pressed discs. Amazon is still only offering DVD-R releases for Rugrats, which aren't as compatible or long lasting.

Same with season 9 now too.

Really hope this leads to an eventual change for Doug season 4.

Never knew those existed! Thanks for posting, I might consider picking those up at some point. This was one of my favourite childhood cartoons and I've always been put off by the DVD-R sets.

This is what I'm hoping for too. Still, at least with that, it's only missing two 11-minute episodes.

The missing an entire half a season of Rugrats season was just not ok. Better late than never though, and at least the MOD DVDs are more affordable now. I still try not to think of how much money I sooner on them when they first started coming out x__x

I don't think a show like this would benefit from Blu-ray, since it was recorded on video. The resolution is "locked in" as far as I know.

The benefit would be an entire season one just one disc.

I wish Nick would let Shout! Factory release these. It amazes me that this show has never had a proper release.

I'll glady take the movies on blu-ray though

Same. I was really happy that Shout! got the rights to release Nick shows on DVD. I was kicking myself for getting all the Amazon DVDs of Hey Arnold! (which were not cheap ) because Shout! offered them for MUCH cheaper. Fortunately I stayed away from Amazon's AAAHH!!! Real Monsters sets after I got season 1 because of the unique opening themes not being present on those.

But Doug and Rugrats were definitely worth it (despite how expensive they used to be, I watch them enough to justify the price) because who knows when we'll ever see official studio releases of them?

It's just frustrating because there's no reason for Nick to NOT give Shout! the rights to Doug and Rugrats. I could understand if Nick was going to release the shows themselves, but whatever. At least we can get them from Amazon. And I highly recommend them, the quality is great and the DVD packages look professional. And best of all, they're more affordable now

No, Shout Factory didn't handle their DVD releases of Nick series well at all:
* Releasing via seasons, and then half seasons! Before finally offering complete sets for only a few series.
* Far too many DVD releases were 'Shout Select' exclusives, making it much more difficult for overseas buyers.
* They stuffed up the episode order for Danny Phantom season 2, and never bothered to fix the issue. Even the complete series, just repacked the earlier discs. And there is still no separate DVD release of season 3.

Check out the complete DVD releases from Turbine Classics in Germany, which include English audio, and put Shout Factory to shame:
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
The Angry Beavers
Hey Arnold!
The Ren & Stimpy Show
Rocko's Modern Life

The various extras (boxed set, poster, postcards, stickers), shown by images on Amazon (Germany), which are included with the DVD set.

I give Shout! Factory the benefit of the doubt for splitting seasons up. Supposedly it was because retailers didn't like carrying more-than-two-disc sets for childrens' cartoons. I do hate that it had to be that way, I hate having Hey Arnold! season 2 split up (I'm all about saving shelf space these days).

And at least they finish making individual seasons available even AFTER the complete series was released. I do find it odd that they would release seasons 1, 2, and 3 of both Rocko and AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, then do a complete series set, and THEN release season 4. But again, at least you had the option to wait for season 4.

So just out of curiosity, I'm not sure about the whole DVDr thing, would the DOUG complete series on Amazon be worth buying? I'm not sure how you can tell if it's DVDr and if that's a good disc format or not.

I was super hesitant because of the mod discs but the packaging was good, pq and aq is comparable to other releases from the time period (keep in mind doug wasn't a well polished show). No special features but I'm ok with that. I am 100% happy with the purchase and the only way of knowing they are mods is by looking at the disc surface

Default Complete Series?

I remember watching Rugrats growing up, always entertaining. It would be great if it were offered in a complete series collection.

Thanks for mentioning those, as I'd never heard of them. However, I'd be a bit put off them, as they are PAL (Rugrats was NTSC), and a lot of the seasons are only 2 discs, which makes me wonder if they've compressed the episodes.

The Australian DVD releases of the first and second seasons of Rugrats have only a single opening and ending sequence for each disc. Not sure about the following seasons, as I'm waiting for the repackages in keep cases.

Isn't that the same with the US release?
