Default Need some 80s and 90s anime movie suggestions.

I was an 80s and 90s anime movie guy. Vampire hunter d, first of the north star, devilman, black cat, 8 man after, demon city shinjuku, wicked city, golgo 13, venus wars, dominion tank police, record of lodoss war, etc.

Anyone of those or ones like those on blu ray in region a or 0? And with original English dubs? Can't help it, late night cartoon network and VHS rentals forever set those as English dubs. I bought the first Akira on blu ray, watched 20 minutes and took it because I hated the new voices, it wasn't the same.

Ones I have no already is vampire hunter d 2 because I heard 1 had new voice actors so I didn't get it. Ghost in the shell, ninja scroll, and damn some others I'm forgetting but I'm the hospital a week I can't look.

This isn't really what the topic is about, but there is no Blu-ray region 0. There is A, B and C, and a Blu-ray can be coded to work in any number of those regions. There's actually no such thing as a "region free" Blu-ray player for this same reason; they're more "region switchable".

As far as the movies you mentioned, you could do a search in the database on this very site. It's very comprehensive.

Doesn't the first Akira Blu-ray release have the original and terrible English dub?

Only the second one (the one by FUNimation) does.

And, if you’re into 80s and 90s series, they don’t have good dubs, or even any, period. But, as Naiera said, I don’t know what this is about. People just aren’t into retro anime, so not as many series/films have Blu-ray releases as there should. Discotek is probably the company you’d like the most, as they do tons of old and obscure shows nobody talks about anymore.

What are any of your thoughts on Venus Wars and Royal Space Force?

I'd say that both a musts if you're mostly or only into 80's/90's anime. I haven't seen Venus Wars myself, but it's one I have to get some day.

Royal Space Force is a stone-cold classic, with some absolutely lush hand-drawn animation, but there is one scene in particular that could be considered pretty...objectionable...in the wake of today's current #MeToo climate. Still, well worth checking out.

I absolutely love Venus Wars, definitely a staple of my childhood. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko was the original creator, and directs this too. (He was the character designer for Mobile Suit Gundam, MSG Zeta Movies, Crusher Joe, etc.) And you have a trifecta of great voice actors in Shuuichi Ikeda, Kouichi Yamadera, and Kaneto Shiozawa.

I recommend Battle Angel because it seems you like the violence. It's only on DVD right now though.

Oh, and Angel Cop is worth checking out, too.

Iria: Zeiram The Animation would be a nice Bluray. Urusei Yatsura Movie 2 is on Blu Ray In America but the rest of the series is on Blu-ray In Japan only. Though that one doesn't match the genres of the ones you mentioned

I don't know if you can still get it somewhere for a sane price, but didn't the Bubblegum Crisis BD set have one of those ancient dubs? Sounds like it would be your kind of thing.

I have that and it does indeed have the dub, but I protest the thought of anyone actually watching it that way.

I don't know about the blu version, but it likely uses the same dub as the DVD, which is horrid. I usually prefer dubs over subs but I had to switch to subtitles on that one.

Dubs aside, I love me some Bubblegum Crisis.

The holy trinity of anime is available on Blu-ray:
Akira
Ghost In The Shell
Ninja Scroll

One of the Urusei Yatsura movies, Beautiful Dreamer, was released recently as well. I don't know how anyone can stand dubs, subs for life!

It isn't a genre you mentioned, but Ranma 1/2 has pretty good quality blu ray releases for an older dubbed anime. The movies and OVAs are in a combo set

Perfect Blue is a great 90s anime movie with a solid dub.
