It premiered at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival but hasn't, to my knowledge come to the US yet.

I saw it almost two months ago, but forgot to post my review.

Here it is.

I was not expecting anyone to churn out a sequel to The Witch anytime soon, but hey, I'm not complaining!

February (or The Blackcoat's Daughter, as it is now called) is an ultra-slow burn. Hardcore gore-hounds will probably fall asleep pretty early on, but anyone who enjoyed the aformention The Witch is bound to like this a lot. The twists are obvious and the plot is severely lacking in purpose and surprises, but this is ultimately an admirable first effort from Osgood Perkins.

Go into it expecting Emma Roberts to be the star and you'll be disappointed though. This is undoubtedly Kiernan Shipka and Lucy Boynton's film, the former delivering a very creepy performance that's able to stand out despite the obvious lack of background information for the character.

Still, beyond the plot conventions there's a very well crafted and unsettling dark ambience that's too chilling to ignore. This is a film about good people forced to do evil things, and Perkins nails the atmosphere.
