I am in the same boat. I have 7.1 speaker setup, and my first ps4 movie i tried was man of steel. i tried both linear and bitstrem options on the ps4 and my reciever says on pcm in pl2x mode. movie is playing like it is was recorded in mono, lol. i guess i will have to keep playing it on the ps3 until it gets fixed.

While a movie is playing, hit the Options button on your controller then go under Settings. There's an option called Audio Format, under there you can change it from Linear PCM to Bitstream (Direct).
It's also the same place you shut off Dynamic Range Control if you wanted to. |

It's a strange spot to have it, as it's not in the standard options menu. Perhaps they'll add it the primary settings in a different patch. |

Haven't tried BD yet.
Doesn't the PS4 send Multi-Channel sound via LPCM while watching BDs? I wouldn't want to change it for games. Resogun & NBA 2K14 so far have blown my hair back. Dunno if they make use of TrueAudio DSP but if I set the PS4 to output bitstream I don't think that extra audio juice would work. I agree with ya's, PS4 has a lot of Easter egg Dynamic Menu Options. ![]() |

General comment, why on earth is the PS4 starting to seem a step backward from the PS3... so much functionality missing ![]() Anyhow know how to report the issue to Sony, if you try a customer rep they will have no idea. |

Ok, I have no idea why Grown Ups 2 did not work but another BD did! Anyhow the menu u want is when the BD is playing, hit "Options" on the controller, there you will be able to select Bitstream. Sorry for the confusion.

I haven't tried any Blu-rays yet, but I did download the VUDU app and test it out. I had it set on Bitstream DTS and tried Turbo, a DD+ 7.1 title, and the display on my Pioneer Elite receiver still said DTS. Plus it indicated that sound was only being output in 5.1. Once I changed it to PCM, it showed 7.1 was being output.
Sony needs to work out the kinks in the Bitstream feature. It shouldn't make you choose DTS or DD in the Settings. There should be internal decoding and Bitstreaming through the receiver, period. I have no idea why they designed it to work this way out of the box. |

Can anyone out there help me figure out how to get best sound out of PS4? I'm using a sony ct150 sound bar. I'm connected using an hdmi cable. In addition to hdmi cable, should I also have an optical cable hooked up from the PS4 to the receiver? I've been playing with all of the settings, but no matter what I do, the receiver only displays LPCM and Dolby Pro Logic II. Please Help!!!

![]() Yes as was discussed & turns out to be true LPCM is the Best audio playback option through HDMI. Wether that's true for BDs, I haven't tested that yet. |
