Default Petition to encourage WB to release all of their Hammer titles on bd!

Hi all,

I'm passing this petition on with hopes that members here will be willing to help. This petition posted at Diabolique magazine is to show Warner Brothers that there is an audience for blu-ray releases of the Hammer Films titles they own (only these seven specific titles are with WB):

CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN
HORROR OF DRACULA
THE MUMMY
TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA
DRACULA RISES FROM THE GRAVE
FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED
DRACULA AD 1972

http://diaboliquemagazine.com/sign-p...itles-blu-ray/

Please click on the link and help get some more classic titles released on blu-ray. Even if you're not a Hammer fan, I think that the petition is also representative of the need to get catalog titles of any genre out in a HD format and to show big companies like WB that there is still a market for catalog titles. This could mean releases by WB, Warner Archive, or even licensing them out should they decided it was finally time to do so like some of the other major studios. It's been available for two days and it's already nearing seven hudred signatures.

Thanks for reading. If Bob Burns can do it, so can you!

Yes, but they also have Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell, through Paramount. They rereleased the DVD through the Archives.

Well, as I wrote, petitions like these help show the big studios that catalog titles are still valued.

That being said... Hammer Films' movies what's being aimed for. I can only encourage you to sign this to as representing catalog titles in general. And, start your own petition for TRUE LIES. Isn't that a Fox title, anyhow?

I have no idea if WB has blu-ray rights to that, though. If you're region-free, it's due on April 28th in the UK!

Not to be pessimistic, but it likely won't. At best we're looking at Warner Archive releases here, and they keep promising to increase output of those but have yet to do so. So as nice as this would be, I don't have faith that they'd do it, even if they got 10K people to sign a petition.

Perhaps. But let's see what happens. Worst case, maybe WB UK will release them region free or they'll finally come around to licensing catalog titles out to smaller companies around the world. We fans have to try.

Does Warner own the rights to these four in the UK too?

TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA
DRACULA RISES FROM THE GRAVE
FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED
DRACULA AD 1972

As most of us are aware, the first 3 (CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, HORROR OF DRACULA, THE MUMMY) have already been released in the UK via Lionsgate with varying results. I actually watched by Curse of Frankenstein blu ray last night and, while the PQ is quite poor, I still found it to be an upgrade from the Warner DVD and the extras on that release are worth the $$ spent alone.

Edit: signed.

As far as I am aware, the sequels listed above are still controlled in the UK by Warner. Hammer was able to gain control of CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, HORROR OF DRACULA, and THE MUMMY again -- that's why those have become available.

I'd really like a Warner release of "(Horror of) Dracula" as I think it'd look way better than the UK Lionsgate. However, warner has the horrible policy of matting all movies at 1.78:1 for home video which is OK if they were shown theatrically at 1.85:1 but this should only ever be matted at 1.66:1 (matting on the Warner dvd is absolutely awful). Warner's only execptions have been a couple of Kubricks (Lolita and Clockwork Orange) in order not to anger his heirs.
