Default Fandor

Any Fandor users here?

I've started using this over Netflix given the amount of Horror, Cult and generally weird cinema they have within their catalogue. There is some HD content and it appears there are deals in place with many distribution companies like Kino, Criterion, Severin, Synapse etc. Another big win is the interface, it is much simpler then Netflix meaning its alot less clunky.

I'm a pretty big fan and Fandor is a perfect side tool, complimenting my physical collection

Yes, but I wish Fandor streamed on more devices.

It looks like Fandor just dropped their subscription price. I checked the other day and it was $10/month and $90/year. But today I saw $7.50/month and $70/year. I always balked at the old price, but this new lower price is pretty decent.

Tech question: I can't for the life of me get movies streamed via Fandor to be output in 5.1 (or whatever their native surround is), even with newer films I know have 5.1 soundtracks. Yes, my Chromecast is plugged directly into my A/V receiver, not my TV.

I've tried playing with the settings on the receiver as well as the Chromecast but no matter what I do, the receiver still says the audio is 2.0 PCM. I tried rebooting the Chromecast...nothing.

Really surprised The Fandor site has no tech settings or FAQ pages on the subject.

Covering all the bases...

If the CC was plugged into the TV, at all, it needs to be rebooted(it retains EDID and remembers devices, so if any devices are 2.0).

The casting device is capable of DD+.

Fandor is set up for DD+.

I did reboot the CC after switching it from the TV to the receiever. It even appeared to be applying an update of some sort, but still only 2.0 PCM audio going into the receiver.

This a good question. Not seeing, anywhere, that Fandor even supports 5.1.

I keep my devices 720P/2.0 anyway(have a 40g cap). But Fandor seemingly has no settings...hhhmmm.

I just tried testing my setup with Vudu, streaming from my Chromebook via the Chromecast, and sure enough it IS sending 5.1 audio to my receiver. So this definitely seems to be a Fandor issue. I emailed their tech support, which the auto reply informed me would take "up to one business day"...
