Default Hard Rock Nightmare (1988)

Dark Force Entertainment has revealed that it plans to add to its Blu-ray catalog Dominick Brascia's horror thriller Hard Rock Nightmare (1988), starring Greg Joujon-Roche, Annie Mikan, Troy Donahue, Tom Shell, and Lisa Elaina. The release is expected to arrive on the market in 2021.

Description: The "Bad Boys" are hot! Jim and his band need a place to rehearse, and the isolated family farm was perfect... no neighbors, just the band and some girls ...Rock & Roll and party before the big concert tour. Unknown to the group, Jim is haunted by the memory of a demented grandfather who traumatized him as a child with stories of being a werewolf. The terrified child drove a stake through his grandfather's heart, and years of treatment have not erased the guilt or the lingering fear of his grandfather's revenge. Twenty years later the horror returns. On a full-moon night, the revelry of the band is shattered as a two-legged wolf brings slaughter to their party. Jim draws close to insanity as his friends are butchered and he must finally confront the terror from his past...Let the nightmare begin!

Might as well go for the Aussie VHS art, much less of an eyesore and less embarrassing.

I was surprised there was zero chatter about this here last night when it went up for order.

Is the glitch at 0:37:39 on everyone's copy? Definitely not print damage. Looks like a digital glitch. It's at the very top of the screen. To the left of the middle/top. It's nothing major and only last a single frame. But if I have a dodgy copy I'd obviously rather get a replacement copy without the glitch

Cheers. It's not one you're listed as owning. Has this been reported somewhere?

Had a reply from Dark Force. I know they're not a huge label so I do get it. Replacement programs are probably too costly for a smaller outfit like them. And it's not a huge issue. It's a shame though as I was pretty impressed with the transfer aside from that, and it's an issue that could have been avoided with better QC. Ah well. Not gonna lose sleep over it. Here's their reply:

"Yeah we have been made aware of it. No one seemed to notice it during any of the transfers or QC. We don't want to make too big of a deal of it though and then get the title pulled for something as little as that. None of these older movies are perfect, there is always some little imperfections."

I literally posted 3 posts above you that I pre-ordered it back in April. It's also in my Horror Films - Code Red/Dark Forces/Scorpion part of my collection. I also already had been discussing it along with Mushi Minion and others last week in the Dark Forces thread.

Picture quality was remarkably solid on this one and I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked. The Audio is a bit off as I had to adjust the Receiver Preset to force Dolby Pro Logic II to play correctly, but sound quality was good and I would image that an incorrect flag was checked during the encoding process. I have an older Onkyo receiver that I usually run all 2 channel stereo tracks through on the THX Cinema setting which decodes the Pro Logic II codec and then applies additional equalization... long story short it's usually the best sounding option. On this release however using this option resulted in audio being sent to the front right and rear right speakers instead of the front left and right or center channel and so things were a bit off for a moment.

Overall I'd go so far as to say that technically speaking this is right up there with the best of Dark Force's offerings and is recommended to folks on the fence. The film was actually better than I thought it would be as well which was a bonus.

The special feature is.... "special". I won't say much more other than that I know that there were issues trying to get anything for this release and so I appreciate including what you did Dave.
