Default 3D is Dead in 2014

What a shame too. I guess we'll have to wait for Cameron to bring it back again since no one else is capable. Only five live action native 3D movies to look forward to and most of them look lame:

The Legend of Hercules
Pompeii
Godzilla
X-Men: Days of Future Past
The Hobbit: There and Back Again

And only one single movie in HFR. Sucks...

I actually forgot 3D was still a thing, it's become so saturated that it's sort of second nature that I'll seek out a 2D showing if possible.

Godzilla MIGHT be solid in 3D.

I'm waiting for someone to utilize 3D like Tron and Gravity did.

X-Men and The Hobbit might make a little bit of money. Enough to silence you and the rest of the haters. So will a couple other movies you conveniently left off your list: Capatain America and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I loved Gravity, but the 3D was atrocious. It's 3D like that which kills 3D.

He said native 3D, which neither of those are. They are 2D -> 3D converts.

As a person with an eye condition that makes it impossible for me to see 3D, I definitely prefer 2D. Although for those of you who enjoy 3D it would be nice to see that continue to be a choice (as long as they also offer 2D showings).

What do those movies have to do with this thread?

And gravity was post converted to 3d. I thought it was shot in 3d?

Umm...how exactly is this any different than the past few years? Most 3D is coversion, not native. I prefer movies that SHOULD be in 3D to be FILMED in 3D and I'm fine with the trend continuing as is.

It's the trend. Disney cancelled most of their 3D conversions and theatrical releases like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc. Star Wars conversions have also been cancelled. Fox cancelled Independence Day conversion. Xbox One and PS4 don't have 3D support.

Sorry, I didn't catch your "native" 3D stipulation. With the great conversions the last couple years, I didn't think people really cared if it was native anymore.

Nonetheless, this thread has the makings of a b*tch-fest, providing nothing positive, so I'm out. If you need me, I'll be in my recliner, enjoying some good 3D conversions.

True/native 3D might be dead in 2014, but 3D is still alive. I can only assume that if there is a Resident Evil movie this year that will be in 3D too.

Are you sure Sin City is going to be in 3D? That seems like an unusual decision.

Gravity was nearly all CGI with the actors composited in. It is native 3D in the fact that they could render out the elements in 3D.

On a technical level I believe it was one of the best 3D experiences of the year. Those that say otherwise are either trolling or saw it at a really crappy theater.
