Will be interesting to see what kind of transfer it gets. A fresh scan 2 or 4K and I´m all in

Otherwise we will probably see it when the remake arrives.

Too bad it's another 16:9 crop job.

Chances of this getting a US release -- with the remake coming out -- are very high also.

I'd think it's a certainty that it'll get an American release first (along with Salem's Lot). Germany do tend to let the cat out of the bag with Warner releases, but I've never known Germany getting a release before the US.

A nice pair of releases for Halloween.

Better come with some extras and uncut. The DVD cut out the opening scene on part II.

If I recall correctly, Tommy Lee Wallace requested that for the 2006 DVD release, which is obviously 16:9 1.78:1 (and largely pre-dates the 16:9 reframing craze), as the BD surely will be. I believe Wallace explains his reasons in detail in the (excellent) audio commentary, and I remember feeling like he basically oversaw reframing the entire thing, which is, after all, closer to a feature film than television in the first place. So I really don't have any problem with this being 1.78:1 (or 1.33:1, either) for the BD.

But Salem's Lot had sure as hell better be OAR, because I don't trust Tobe Hooper farther than I could throw him, anyway.

Funny, I was just going through Tobe Hooper's filmography and wondered what the hell happened. I forgot he had directed the shoddy Spontaneous Combustion film and a slew of TV movies afterwards. Salem's Lot was pretty good though, well made and provocative for a TV movie, light years ahead of anything Mick Garris has been able to accomplish.

I don't mind this being 16:9, it's been that way since the original DVD release back in the late 90's. I'd like a few more extras than the audio commentary, which is pretty good in it's own right, but chances of that seem slim. Apparently, they shot more graphic scenes that had to be trimmed down for television, I believe having to do with the death of George.

The closing scene of the first part as well I believe. If the running time quoted at bluray-disc.de is to be trusted then I would expect the exact same version as found on the DVD. For the time being I'll wait for reviews before deciding on a purchase. I still have the uncut laserdisc of It.

I would suggest reaching out to Warner Archive suggesting they'd restore the missing scenes if possible (if not even restoring the original 2-parter appearance) before a US release is announced. I don't expect a miracle but it's better than sitting on your hands.

I tweeted at Warner yesterday and no response yet. I may send them a Facebook message. They're usually pretty good with this sort of stuff, much better than the folks that put things on DVD in the late 90's. Unless things are cut for copyright reasons, like The Howling. I remember watching that for Tom Waits and never seeing him.

Warner responded on Facebook. "No plans" is what they say, but it's obviously coming out in Germany and everything. They're just playing coy.
