I'm one of these rare (although our numbers appear to be growing) heterosexual male children of middle America that hate, hate, hate...did I mention loathe?...sports and the stranglehold they have on the nation's imagination. That said, oddly, I absolutely love the ROCKY franchise (yes, even V), especially the first one--I believe it's because the actual sport of boxing is rather incidental to the compelling human drama at the center of the story. From this list, I also enjoy CINDERELLA MAN, RAGING BULL, SEABISCUIT, HIDALGO, FIELD OF DREAMS, THE FAN, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, THE LAST BOY SCOUT and the first two KARATE KID movies.
The first one is the best with young Tatum O'Neal and Walter Matthau as the beer drinking Buttermaker!! Also loved Jackie Earle Haley back in the 70's. He was a really good young actor
