Inferno is really good. The last 15 minutes or so are pure insanity and it's interesting to the Japanese outlook of death. This is a really good film overall and stars Mieko Harada most famous from Ran. I hope this does well.

This is a pretty disturbing, but fascinating film that has been overlooked for far too long. Also has a pretty good performance from villain regulars Renji Ishibashi and Kunie Tanaka. This film deserves an audience and I thank MM for releasing it.

I want to ask one thing.

Is it utterly barmy?

Ok, today is the day! Mondo Macabro has Curse of the Dog Dog and Inferno on sale right now! Not only that, they will be shipping their stock in only a few weeks. I highly suggest film fans check these out so we can show our support for releases like these. The higher the sales, the more likely we’ll get more Japanese films from labels like MM and similar ones. I truly urge everyone taking a chance with these two, as you will not regret it. They are fantastic films. Here is the link to place an order.

I enjoy the 1960 "Jigoku" quite a bit so I'm happy to pick up and discover this 1979 version.

I grabbed a copy. I think this might be my first red case now that I think about it. I started buying MM films way late.

Just finished The Inferno. While I liked Curse of the God Dog more, I think Inferno is easily the more disturbing of the two films and probably one of the more discomforting films out of Japan.

This one tackles nearly every taboo in Japan and doesn't hold back. This one starts quickly, slows downs, and then ramps up to the final 25 minutes of feeling disturbed and uncomfortable. You're not going to feel good when this is over, but that's ok, because that's the intention.

Hell is portrayed exactly as you might imagine it would be, pure pain and eternal torture. I'm often surprised that there haven't been more films that depict some sort of Hell, but this one doesn't shy away from it.

Mieko Harada mainly known from Ran steals the show in this one. You feel for her, but some of her actions are questionable on her path of "revenge". Also a nice cameo by Toei regular Nobuo Kaneko in a blink and you'll miss it role as a judge of Hell.

Overall, solid release from Mondo Macabro. Can't wait to get my hands on their next batch of Japanese releases, but so far when it comes to their Blu-ray releases of Japanese films, they are 6 for 6.

Am I missing something - the baby that was switched at birth has lots of bad things happen to her, but it seems she's an innocent. Did I miss something in the back-story that would explain why she would be deserving of all this bad luck as well...or was she just collateral damage? --Peter

Just collateral damage. And it seems she had a nice life prior to it all, but yeah...innocence is not a doom buffer.

What is the correct aspect ratio for The Inferno? The back of the box lists 2.35:1, and the theatrical trailer is 2.35:1. When I watch the disc, it displays in 1.85:1 on my TV and my computer monitor.

Ok, I see I’m not the only one confused about the aspect ratio. Just finished watching my copy and couldn’t help but notice the discrepancies. It didn’t seem to have incorrect framing but I asked Jared on the Mondo thread for clarity.
