Default Motive

Quote:
From Daniel Cerone, the executive producer of Dexter and The Mentalist, comes Motive, a thrilling crime drama with a unique twist focusing not on who did the crime, but why the crime was committed in the first place. Motive premieres THURSDAY, MAY 23 9|8c on ABC.

When murder is committed, Angie Flynn, a loving, single mother and a damned good homicide detective, along with her partner, Detective Oscar Vega, are on the case, looking for clues that will lead them to the killer. But "Motive" turns the tried-and-true crime drama formula on its head by identifying the Killer and Victim at the beginning of each episode. As the mystery unfolds, winding between revealing flashbacks and present time, viewers will navigate the twisted and complicated maze of each murder, solving the puzzle alongside Detective Flynn and her team, piecing together more of the mysterious connections that drove the Killer to commit murder.

Rounding out the homicide team are Dr. Betty Rogers, a medical examiner with a quirky sense of humor that belies the grimness of her daily job; Staff Sergeant Boyd Bloom, the Squad Room Supervisor, who was sidelined from the streets a few years earlier by a bullet; and Detective Brian Lucas, a young detective who is eager to learn from the best and is fascinated about the often grisly procedures.

Angie doesn't suffer fools or authority figures lightly; her disarming, street-smart attitude often leads criminals and co-workers alike down the garden path, only to realize later that they've made a major mistake by taking this sexy, sassy force-of-nature at face value. At home Angie only wants the best for her teenage son, Manny, who is one of the few things in life that she feels she did right. But as far as Manny's concerned, being the son of a cop is not the easiest gig in the world.

Motive stars Kristin Lehman (The Killing, Judging Amy) as Detective Angie Flynn, Louis Ferreira (SGU Stargate Universe, Rookie Blue) as Detective Oscar Vega, Lauren Holly (NCIS, Chicago Hope, Picket Fences) as Dr. Betty Rogers, Roger Cross (24, Arrow) as Staff Sergeant Boyd Bloom, Brendan Penny (Whistler) as Detective Brian Lucas and Cameron Bright (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) as Manny Flynn.

Motive was created by Daniel Cerone ("Dexter," "The Mentalist"), who executive-produces the show along with James Thorpe, Louise Clark, Rob Merilees, Rob LaBelle, Erin Haskett and Lindsay Macadam. Developed by CTV, the series is produced by Foundation Features and Lark Productions in association with Bell Media, and distributed by NBCUniversal International.

Also, just a heads up that there was already an episode that aired on Monday. It's available on Hulu and the show's official page on ABC.com. Also, don't be confused by the fact that the page says the show premieres tonight. It'll actually be right tomorrow.

Watched it last night after DWTS. Interesting concept. Like the character of the detective mom. She's cool! Surprised to see Joey McIntyre in the episode. "Creepy" episode. Will tune in again next week.

Just to let you know, the normal night for this is Thursday, so the second episode will actually be tonight.

It was the #1 rated new show in Canada.

It won't matter if it flops here. CTV already ordered a second season, which was a no-brainer given the show's success. I'm guessing this is something similar to what SyFy is doing with the Showcase shows Continuum and Lost Girl.

Granted if it flops here, it will become difficult to watch the show in the US. It seems they region lock their website like Showcase since it gave me an error when I tried to watch an episode there.

No, I haven't. I didn't even know the show existed until about a week or so ago. Plus, like with Continuum when that first aired, I have no way of watching Canadian shows like some people somehow do (at least not legally).

I do plan on watching both episodes sometime over the weekend though. I've been sick, so I'm waiting a bit to watch them.

So the premiere I DVR'ed yesterday was actually episode 2?

AMC did this with Rubicon too, and that show didn't last too long

Episode 1 repeats this Sunday - if you want to DVR it as well.

Same here after watching it tonight. The only difference is Hulu instead of DVR.

I'll give a more detailed opinion of the series so far after watching the second episode.

Missed Thursday night's episode. I thought it was the same episode as Monday's. Will try to watch it online. Thanks for the heads up!

Has there ever been a non-Canadian show that debuted in the States during the summer on network television and was a hit? Summer network TV seems like a wasteland for one-and-one TV shows, as well as shows that were canceled earlier in the year that are now being burned off.

Wow! Just watched Thursday's episode online on ABC. Even better than Monday's episode. Guess I have a new show to watch Thursday nights!

I feel the same after watching the second episode on Hulu today.

It's a nice twist on the formula, so I think it works even though there's a ton of investigative shows out there now.

I just hope at some point they let somebody else be the one to figure it out. She hasn't bought who everyone thought was the killer in both episodes now.

Unfortunately the ratings don't seem to be very good right now, but it was the second highest rated show in the timeslot, so all is not lost if it can maintain the ratings.

Something to watch on Thursdays now that most shows I watch are on hiatus.

Not that I'm complaining as downtime like this allows me to put even more focus on my TV shows on Blu-ray, but this is the only show I have on right now (I don't get HBO, Showtime, etc.).
