USA Invasion of the Body Snatchers 3D Blu-ray (1956) [Region Free] [BD-R]

Pre-order now live from VarietyFilms.net, ships during October.

See a varied collection of both native & AI converted vintage 3D material from the 1870s to the 1970s... & beyond in this 2-disc Blu-ray 3D set with lenticular cover! (only compatible with 3D disc players & displays)

It starts with an AI conversion of the timeless sci-fi Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Join Miles, a professional who thinks he's got life all figured out, as he slowly & terrifyingly begins to realize that all is not as it seems in the small town of Santa Mira, in this Twilight-Zone-esque mystery of thrills & chills. The 3D journey continues with new bonus material such as 100th anniversary highlights from The Ten Commandments, stereo cards, Daring Adventures & Abbott & Costello 3D comics collections, a newly formatted look at a somewhat abandoned 3D project of the 70s & more. - Also includes bonus material from the out-of-print Vintage 3D collection, such as stereo cards, early 3D films, highlights from the Robinzon Kruzo 3D Soviet film, Bible slides, the full-length AI converted The Lost World and more.

Paramount licensed Invasion of the Body Snatchers for a 3-D conversion?

Interesting. Especially the (presumably 3D?) Lenticular Cover. This website looks, aside from the YouTube embeds, like something out of 2001 or so though, very "Web 1.0"

Ai conversions are relatively new and will be disappointing for most discerning 3D aficionados so be careful spending your money on this…to me it has a long way to go and is currently just a hair above auto conversion/junk/trash status…

Trailer looks awful. The "AI" algorithm gets more depth placement wrong than it does right, and there's no actual separation/occlusion to speak of. It's not a believably three-dimensional image, just a warped image.

I take it you have not seen Nightmare Castle. If you rate an autoconversion at 0 (where it belongs) and the best multi-million dollar Marvel movie conversion at 10, I'd rate Nightmare Castle at 8.

It remains to be seen if Variety Films will do as good a job on this movie as Deep Vision Studios did on Nightmare Castle.

I guess Variety Films did not do as good a job on this movie as Deep Vision Studios did on Nightmare Castle.

You take it wrong, sir. I not only have seen it, I own it.

The process was not autonomous and the difference is stark…

The conversion of Nightmare Castle is very good indeed, and the conversion of The House on Haunted Hill is looking even better. AIPOP is currently the indie 3-D conversion team to beat. I’m amazed at what they’ve achieved so far.

I watched the side by side trailer and it looks like an auto conversion based on that trailer anyway, with very mild 3D from what I saw for the Invasion of the Body Snatchers clips.

UPDATE:
Well today is release day . . . and also the day to announce that this title has been cancelled during pre-orders in a cautionary measure, due to confusion regarding the public domain status of this film. So if you got one from the original test batch, most of which shipped early, congratulations, you got one of only 30 copies that will ever be made. It's worth noting that this set contained many extras, most of which were native 3D vintage material, and much of these, including all the new ones and most from the out-of-print Vintage 3D collection, will instead be released with Outlaw Territory.

"Body Snatchers" had its copyright renewed on 1983-05-17 - not sure how there was ever any confusion about this.

The copyright notice is one year prior to its' actual release which in some cases can invalidate it, plus a couple of sources list it as public domain, that's how. Not worth looking into though. Will probably upload the 3D conversion to YouTube at some point for all to enjoy as they don't seem to be enforcing that avenue, and the extras have been moved to another Blu-ray release.

Popped it in last night. While i respect the effort that went into making this and I never want to upset our eventual AI overlords, I had lots of problems with the conversion. 3D was decent in some spots but there was this strange, warped "breathing" of the background which was distracting and odd. Was stone cold sober watching this, but I imagine this background would be what you would see on special fungus. The only reason I finished it was due to the quality of the movie itself. In contrast, I thought the extras on disc one of the 3D photographs were extremely neat, and in one of the earlier examples the womens arm was literally popping out of my TV. I think future conversions will need to be tweaked significantly to make them of any interest to the average 3Dphile on this site.
