Korean superhero movie Hi-5 will be distributed in the US through Well Go USA.

Directed by Kang Hyoung-chul, the story follows five ordinary people who develop superpowers after receiving organ transplants and for a team called Hi-Five. But a cult leader who received a pancreas transplant gets the ability to absorb energy and targets the powers of the new team.

The cast includes Yoo Ah-in, most recently seen in sports drama The Match, which unseated Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 from a long run at the top of the box office in South Korea and ranks as one of the top five titles in the country this year to date. However, he was also involved in a drug scandal that reportedly delayed the release of the film.

There is some clumsy exposition here but the movie is still a lot of fun, especially as it finds new a ways to bring ancient god tropes into the superhero genre.

Here's hoping a sequel is in the works.
