Thumbs up Roger Waters "The Wall - Live In Berlin" out July 23rd

Roger Waters "The Wall - Live In Berlin" will be re-released on BD on or around July 23rd, depending on your region, celebrating the concert's 20th anniversary. This concert has previously been released on DVD and VHS, and with audio only on SACD and CD.

There will be some new content, including interviews. As of now it remains unclear if the audio and video will be cleaned/overhauled/remixed/remastered/retransfered.

I was lucky enough to see Waters in concert a few years ago. The man is just a musical genius. I'll take him and his band over the Gilmore-led version of Pink Floyd any day. (That's not bashing Gilmore, that's just complimenting Waters.)

I'll be curious to see what the PQ of this concert is on Blu.

This concert was recorded on video tape, wasn't it? Not sure there will be any kind of video upgrade over the previous DVD release but obviously the audio should see a huge upgrade.

Unmissable. I wonder if it'll be the 4:3 ratio of the original broadcast or the 1.78 cropped version of the later DVD issue?

Hey,

I'll have to watch my DVD version of this and determine how much I currently dis-like this concert.

Many of the guests were out of their element and the resulting performances were dreadful. I'm fairly certain I can not sit through the version of Comfortably Numb that's featured on this concert.

Pink Floyd is my all time favorite and the only band I like more than the Beatles. I have just about everything Floyd related in terms of Audio and Video. Including the Delicate Sound of Thunder Laserdisc and I used to have the Animals 8-track because there was content on there you couldn't get elsewhere but now I have that same version just on CD.

( I don't collect bootlegs anymore.. the AV quality of those is usually disappointing even if the content is unique.)

I am very excited about the up coming Wall tour and will be going with an old friend a few days before my Birthday. Can't wait.

-Brian

I hope they go for the original format because of "less awful" image quality!

I agree wholeheartedly!

The rumors of this tour inn late 2009, Waters talking about wanting to do it, leading into the US announcement, and recently the EU announcement, have have turned me into the Roger-Waters-rollercoaster-intoxication-mode again!

The previous concerts I have attended have all been among top 10 of my best concert experiences, and I've been to close to 100 total.

I saw Roger Waters in concert in
Stockholm, Sweden, 2002
Oslo, Norway, 2006
Stavanger, Norway, 2006
Bergen, Norway, 2007
Odense, Denmark, 2008

Can't wait for these next year!
Arnhem, Netherlands, April 9th
Oslo, Norway, April 30th
Düsseldorf, Germany, June 18th

I'll miss Andy, but I'm sure Waters has hired the "new" musicians because he knows they know how to convey the magical music the way Waters imagines it. I'll also miss Katie Kissoon, and P.P. Arnold, but I understand why they aren't with us this time around. Poor P.P. though, she said in 2008 - I think it was right after they had finished the Dark Side Of The Moon Live tour - that she'd heard from Waters that they would go on tour again probably in about two years...

Right there with ya. If you like Pink Floyd or The Wall, this concert can be very challenging. The vocals on Comfortably Numb alone are enough can make you run in the other direction.

Edit = I just re-viewed it in case I didn't remember right. Roger's part is fine of course. He had 5 or so people sing David Gilmour's parts and it could have worked but the results were sickening.

They should have officially released "The Wall" footage from Earls Court instead. At least that's all Pink Floyd and not Sinead O'Connor singing "Mother".

I'd be happy if it was only released on DVD.

You forgot to say Barrett as well. These guys created a band that was so brilliant that having so called extras singing parts was wrong IMO.

Every time I have seen this and One Night with Gilmore, I just wish that it was the originals. New does not make it good or right.

Bootlegs DVDs of that concert are very easy to find. It's super-craptastic quality sadly but... oh well. Actually I think that whole concert can be watched directly on youtube.

I thing Sinead did a great job actually. One of the best "guests". The Scorpions also did well. I like most of the concert. I'm not familiar with Van Morrison but his contribution I know I don't like. Bryan Adams is annoying but he seemed to do ok.
