Default Silent Hill 3 (Christophe Gans)

Quote:
It’s been nearly ten years now since the Silent Hill franchise was up on the big screen, with the first adaptation in 2006 followed by the lackluster Silent Hill: Revelation in 2012. That damn good, game-faithful first movie was directed by Christophe Gans, who seems to have made the surprise announcement that a new Silent Hill movie is in the works!

Speaking with the French website Allocine, and translated by various sites including Rely on Horror, Gans teased a new Silent Hill movie:

“The [Silent Hill] project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it’s time to make a new one.“

Gans went on to describe his experience with making the 2006 movie as being “beautiful,” and that the studio fully allowed him to make the movie *he* wanted to make. Source

Really like the first movie. The second was not very good. Hopefully this one will close out the arc.

This doesn't sound like anything remotely official is happening.

Just that he would like another one to get made.

The first one is pretty damn awesome, though.

I wished people would stop creating threads for films which aren’t happening. Just because a director says in an interview, they’d be open to the possibility, isn’t the same as a film being anywhere near going into production.

If this does happen, I hope Dan Laustsen returns as DoP.

His imagery in the first film both gorgeous and haunting.

Those sequences with Pyramid Head. Good lord.

For what he actually said in the original interview:

"I have two horror film projects with Victor Hadida. I'm working on the adaptation of the video game Project Zero (known as Fatal Frame in the United States, editor's note). The film will take place in Japan. I certainly don't want to uproot the game from its Japanese haunted house setting. And we're also working on a new Silent Hill. The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it's time to make a new one."

And on the topic of 2012's Silent Hill: Revelation:

"Honestly? I never saw it. I had to make it, but when I understood that the producers wanted to make the film a sort of Resident Evil, I refused. I wanted to stay true to my orthodoxy. For example, Crying Freeman and Beauty and the Beast remain very close to their original works. These are works of art that have been developed in a different medium so I cannot take the right to spoil it. Unfortunately for the sequel to Silent Hill, the public's verdict was brutal, so again, no regrets."

The first movie was great and in terms of style, they captured the game perfectly. The second was garbage though.

The first remains one of my not-so-guilty pleasures, and in my opinion, the best video game adaptation to date. Was SO let down by the sequel, but I hope this can make up for it. Wonder if they're going to adapt one of the other games, or create something new. I'd be down for an adaptation of SH4.

The first one was purely amazing in visual and tone. Story was worse than expected.

Never saw 2. Looked cool but I hear it is crap.

'Jacob's Ladder' (1990) still remains the best Silent Hill film to date.

Default Silent Hill (New Project) from director of Silent Hill (2006)

As for Fatal Frame, a Japanese live-action movie was released back in 2014, and plans of a movie for American audiences go all the way back to 2003. Long time coming!

love Silent Hill (2006) so it's a good news to me
also love his Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001), didn't like Beauty and the Beast (2014), but it's still beautiful to watch, so looking forward to these new projects

The first silent hill is the best video game franchise film, I'm still not sure why the reception is split down the middle. The atmosphere, visuals and music are soooo good.

Good, I'm glad they didn't get back the director of Silent Hill Revelation so this one should be almost as good as the first one. Too bad Samuel Hadida (producer of the two Silent Hill movies as well as True Romance and the Resident Evil film series) tragically passed away back in November of 2018 though.
