i have..u have to realize that they aren't OLD movies, they are relatively new even the first 2.
the sound is the same on all of them. pq wise it doesnt look as good as the fifth or fourth one, but those are filled with amazing cgi. the ghosts, etc. in the first 2 however look amazing. voldemorts face at the end of one is very clear, perhaps too much. realize the first 2 don't rely on animation as much, however the castles, etc look sensational in ALL OF THEM (better in the newer 2) |

Most likely they would be ancient. However, I think he means old in relation to the most recent movie, Order of The Phoenix. His statement is accurate time is relative.

I got Philosopher's Stone today, I ordered the rest from the USA. Though I also ordered Sorcerer's Stone just for the fun of it. What I found to be odd is that on the Canadian cover, only English, Spanish and French soundtracks, English, Spanish, French and Italian subtitle tracks are mentioned. But when I accessed the menu, there were many more languages.
Anyway, the picture quality is a big leap over the DVD. I can tell you that without hesitation. More film grains are present, which is surprising for a WB title considering how they tend to soften the image in many of their titles. But the problem with the first movie is that it was rushed to the theatres. It's exactly as I remembered in the theatre, the look of it that is. Some special effects are good, but some are obviously rushed, like the scene with the sorting hat. That was badly done, too much contrast and not enough details in that scene. But I am pleasantly surprised with the first movie on Blu-ray disc and I expect the next 4 to be better as they have improved in image quality due to better scheduling and preparation. |

One of the things that I had a problem with on these DVD's (pretty much all of them if I remember right) is that you couldn't get the black levels balanced no matter what you did. If you turned things down to make it actually hit a true black black, the image looked fake and uneven. If you turned it up, the image still was very uneven, but now you could easily make out compression artifacts. It was pretty much a lose lose situation. But now it seems to be pretty fixed. Things are bright enough that you don't lose any detail and it looks very film like.
By the way, did anyone test Goblet of Fire? When Harry is battling the dragon, there's a shot right before the dragon comes out and in the bottom left hand corner, there is what appears to be the number 750. I don't know what that is or why it's there... |
