Default HDMI 19 pin HDMI Type A???

Hey all, was wondering if someone could answer this question?

is HDMI 19 pin HDMI Type A the new HDMI 1.3v?

i was researching some t.v's and it states it has a HDMI 19 pin HDMI Type A input and was wondering if this is the same as HDMI 1.3v?

the tv is the panny plasma th50pz77u model.

HDMI told me via e-mail that there is no difference in the amount of pins used but early versions had a few that were temporarilly inactive.

Cables are cables for the most part. But since 1.3 they have a testing done that assures that they can carry the new higher bandwidth. These are cat 2 cables. But start with what you have and if you notice any problems then check out monoprice and order some 1.3 cat 2 cables.

As to the way it is written I wonder if the v is just the version of HDMI but is is after it instead of infront.

Thats strange. The link works for me...anyways it links to the Plasma on Crutchfield.com

They state its HDMI v1.3. (and they are usually correct on this kind of stuff)

Just for info, there is one common HDMI connector that we're all familiar with. That's the type A connector that is equivalent to single link DVI. When you see someone selling an HDMI cable, this will be what they mean.

DVI had a dual link connection (using the same connector) for very high resolution monitors (over 1920x1200). The HDMI equivalent of this is Connector B, which has 29 pins.

There is a third, smaller, connector that was introduced with V1.3 for use with camcorders. Looks like the others, but about 4 mm smaller.

HDMI V1.3 roughly doubles the bandwidth in order to support deep colour, faster refresh etc, but still uses the same form factor connector as before.

Early HDI cables weren't up to much and caused all sorts of problems. Manufacturers seem to have got their act together now, and I bought a 10m cable for about $40 that works just fine at 1080p60.

Nick
