Default Why no deals on GAMES??

Hello All,

Why can't we find deals or sales on PS3 games?? The movies deals are amazing.

Today I can buy a Blu-Ray movie for $9.99 versus in store at $29.99 and up. When or where are the deals on games. I am a newbie and want to buy 5-6 but can't afford the price.

Am I missing the secret website for deals??

Anyways thanks for any tips you can give me.

Have a great day.

P.S. As my first game I want to go with Drake's and AC.

I think it's because the whole business model is different between games and movies.

Retailers can still sell a movie for $20 years after its release, but sealed games radically lose their value potential after the first year, or the next best thing arrives.

Games most likely also have to dole out more for the console system and online maintenance.

Yeah it definitely has to do with the whole video games drop in price dramatically. Video game buffs I guess have a shorter attention span than movie buffs lol. Just how reception of video games and movies works, so the market works differently.

You can find deals on games you just have to search more for them and see the deal at the right time.

Maybe because movies sell millions so the companies still make a good profit even if one unit only brings them $1 or $2. while games sell 100,000 range they need to make more per each unit.

No I think its because movies are so expensive given the enjoyment per dollar measurement. I mean think about it, you spend $23.99 on a bd movie that will give you about 2 hours of enjoyment. But video games on the one hand will can give you 10 hours 1st time playing, even Heavenly Sword took me about 8 hours. So a movie is more than 1/3 the price of the video game but only gives you 1/5 the enjoyment. Now if you like to watch movies again and again then you expand this enjoyment, but there are also people who play Heavenly Sword on a more difficult setting after beating it.

Then there are games like Oblivion where 200 hours and I haven't beaten the main quest yet. And I want to try another character, a mage perhaps. Think about the enjoyment per dollar there.

So games aren't actually expensive in real terms, nominal at $59.99, yes, but not real. Thats why you don't see that many deals on it.

And the sudden price drop also happens in movies. A new dvd will sell at $19 at wal-mart. A year later its down to twelve, a 37% drop. Most (good, well reviewed) video games selling at $59 will only drop by $10 to $49 after a year, only a 16% drop.

You can also get 10% off all purchases with a Backstage Pass card at FYE.

Bjs, Costco, and wholesale stores like that usually have games for a couple bucks less as well.

One answer I don't remember seeing is that movies come from major studios that have many movies. This means when Disney has a BOGO at Amazon or Fox has a buy 2 get one free at BB, it tends to be more interesting to report and people are more exited about it. There have been sales on games, I bought a couple of PS3 games for 20$, some of the others where under 40$, some 60$ and some at the normal Canadian price of 70$ but without having many games coming from the same source that can organize an interesting looking sale it is talked about less
