Default Just got back from Target

And lo and behold what did I spy? A 2-to-1 margin of BD titles vs. HD titles, and a kiosk dedicated to extolling the virtues of BD. Of course, they were moving PS3s as well as several stand alone players (Sony, etc.).

From the looks of the inventory, the BD titles are moving (empty or picked-over slots) vs. the HD titles (seemingly pristine and untouched).

I didn't notice any specials at this time.

Alot Of That Had To Due With This Past Weeks Sale Of The Sony Standalone Player And The Target Gift Card Associated With The Sale. The Extra Kiosk Appeared In The Two Weeks At My Target. But There Are About 16 Rows Of Pockets For Blu Vs The 4 Rows For Hdddddddud And Soon To Be Shrinking From What I Read, They Are Moving Away From Hddud Except The High Profile Titles

i love the new BD display, unfortunately it's a multmedia (CF) drive running thorugh component cables. Theres nothing blu-ray about it. And the TV is only 720p/1080i. Kind of disappointing. Target's a bunch of cheap bastards. Trust me, I knows

+1 The PQ is disappointing compared to watching Blu-ray on my TV. Not exactly the best way to sell it. Best Buy got it right: they played Blu-rays from the start on Sony XBR TVs.

I still think Target are doing a good job with their endcap display. Plus the blu-ray promo that plays on it is nicely produced and hits all the right points.

Ah, okay. See, I don't get out into the retail space much, since I order 99.9% of anything non-grocery online. So I was just surprised to see the kiosk at all. And just for giggles, I stopped into Blockbuster today, to see their Blu-Ray rental collection. I still haven't made up my mind to go with BB's mail-order rental scheme (I hear they are more timely with BD discs), or to stick with my Netflix (I have it set with BD as my preferred format).

Too, although it wasn't an ideal setup to show off blu-ray, how ideal can it be in a noisy store under the glare of bad fluorescent lighting? It still looked pretty sharp, and got its point across (we can hope!).

Thanks,
Mark

That is funny that people are thinking that way. I was at Target today and saw some people checking out the BD Display. One of the guys says "I want that!" The displays that I have seen look really good, so maybe someone has it set up wrong. I know they don't really use a BD player and only use a media player, but Target only has so much space for electronics as compared to Best Buy and such, but I have actually yet to see a real BD player there, you must have to ask for it. PLUS, Target was advertising BD on all of their TVs on display. It was showing a commercial for cars and was pretty exciting. Interestingly enough they showed a Shrek 3 commercial and at the very in it said, oh yeah, its available on HD DVD, kind of just in passing not an entire BD commercial like the Cars one.

Target does not decide what is used in these displays. I know I work there. A regional promotions person for the manufacturer, probably sony again, has it shipped to us and they do most the set-up. That's they way it was with the PS2, PS3, Game Cube, Wii, Xbox, and XB 360. At least at our store.

I was at the Target near me and their Blu section has more than double while the red stayed the same since the last time I was there.

I was in the Best Buy in Warwick RI today. Their Blu-ray and HD-DUD are back to back in a row. The HD-DUD ended about 6 feet shorter than the Blu row and the Blu-ray row had a TON more titles.
