The original Toy Story may have been released in 3D in 2009, but back in 1995 it was issued as three View-Master reels (with stereoscopic renderings from the original computer models).
By way of comparison, I have scanned the original View-Master images and put them side-by-side with frame captures from the 3D theatrical release (all but one of the View-Master shots are direct frames from the film). What is interesting to me is how much stronger the stereo was in the View-Master version. In the film release, the sense of depth has been dialled way down (and in a few shots is almost non-existent). The full gallery can be seen here: Toy Story image comparisons (With a variety of 3D viewing options) The View-Master scans are taken from my own 20-year-old reels; the frame captures are from the UK Sky3D broadcast version (which was shown in half side-by-side format). |
