I was just at my local Walmart and they were doing a re-stock. I decided to browse the inventory sheet set up and noticed that they had AIRPORT '75 BD/DC listed for $7.88 being released by Universal. The "implementation date" was for the week of 6/26/15. I hope this is true! Actually I'm hoping that is a 3 pack containing AIRPORT 75, 77 and 79. I took a photo of the inventory sheet. Hope I'm not breaking any laws posting this : )

I compared the UPC number in your pic with the blu of the original Airport and they match, so it's not Airport 1975. As indicated above, the only known release is the French one coming out in July.

FYI.....the 3 sequels are all individual French releases not a Blu Ray pack.

Top Gun 3D has one UPC on the $6.88 shelf hidden near self-checkout and another UPC on the 3D shelf at a much higher price. |

I don't know but the UPC matches the Airport blu-ray re-release with the UV code (as opposed to the original release with the DVD). If Airport 1975 was being released we would have heard about it, looks like whoever typed out that info made a mistake.

I was really hoping this was going to be an official blu-ray release of Airport 1975 in North America from Universal! I guess I got excited for nothing. Damn Walmart and their typos...LOL

I was particularly stoked because I just yesterday went and picked up Airport at Meijer on a whim.

Maybe since the sequels are officially coming out in France that it will light a fire under Universal to release them in North America. I've been waiting for these and the Jaws sequels for years!

Old catalog titles on BD seem to be much more popular in France and Germany than here. The French releases are not from Universal, but a local licensee, like the German Fahrenheit 451 and The Hindenburg. I don't think this is any sign of a US release. If you have any interest in these films, import the French discs.

You (and all us fans) should be glad Universal has not released these three Airport films on blu in the US because back then Universal would DNR the picture to ugliness trying to make them look like video (removing all grain and detail from the film elements) instead of leaving these movies from the '70s alone. Film grain is fine and detail is even better (when it comes to 1080p or 2160p)! Hearing good things about these French blu rays!!

I have '75 and '77. The transfers fall on the better side of Universal output. Nice and natural look with only minor quibbling over slight sharpening on '77, and slight compression issues on '75. The transfers are very nice considering this is Universal. The Hindenburg German disc is stunning though region B locked. The Italian Rollcoaster blu is outstanding..seems like a very new remaster. It's the American version with no DNR or sharpening, removable subs and is region free.
The French airport movies are the American versions with English tracks, removable subs, are region free. Last edited by donidarko; 09-13-2015 at 09:47 PM. Reason: Typo |

I'm very happy with the quality of Airport '75, and '77. Compared to the DVDs these are a significant upgrade. The PQ on '79 is also a big improvement over its DVD counterpart, but its still soft and the process shots involving a lot of the FX work is very, very grain.
