I was thinking about this today. If the WB rumors indeed happen soon, would those of you that support both formats stop buying HD DVD's, even from Paramount/Dreamworks/Universal?
Would you have enough faith that WB's move would turn the tides of HD DVD exclusive studios in time that you would wait it out until those films came to Blu? |

I like movies, so ill buy on whatever format they publish. Right now the only movies I buy on HD DVD are exclusives. Everything that is on both, I buy for BD.

Well, I have already stopped buying HD DVDs for the most part. But if WB went blu exclusive, I would probably sell my player. Well, I guess that would really have to be after Universal went neutral because I have to watch Hot Fuzz and Serenity.

I'm confused, if you're neutral and WB stops putting out HD DVD's, why would you stop buying Blu-ray's?

I'll still buy the select few that are on HD-DVD. I'll sell the HD-DVD versions and buy the Blu-ray versions once then are rereleased on Blu-ray.

I'm not a neutral supporter, but I have to ask....why would you stop buying HD-DVD's if WB turns exclusive, unless the only reason you bought HD-DVD in the first place was for WB titles?
You would still have Paramount/Universal titles to choose from on the "other" format. Not trying to start a rant here, but most people that support both formats aren't in it for the BD vs. HDDVD, they just want the titles they like regardless of the color of the box. If there are still titles they enjoy, they are going to still buy red too. Just my .02 |

I think the reason that this question was asked is because if WB goes blu exclusive, then any more money spent on HD-DVD is almost guaranteed to be a waste. The OP is merely trying to see if the current neutral people out there will continue to put money in HD-DVD if WB does go blu exclusive.

I was just curious if anyone would continue buying titles form HD DVD exclusive studios after the WB deal went down. Many have said that it would have the potential to swing the Universal/Paramount holdouts into the Blu arena. |

No one wants to be stuck with discs on a dead format -- sure, one player in your house will play it, but you can't count on playing it anywhere else. Unlike when DVDs came out, until there's one format you can't buy HDM discs now knowing for certain that eventually they will play everywhere (the bedroom, the mini-van, your friends' homes). The money's on blu and yet J6P is still staying away from both formats. So other than videophiles and disc collectors who like having odd formats with limited places to play them, fewer and fewer people will buy HD-DVD.
So I can't imagine buying HD-DVD now, much less once they start to plummet. Last edited by milou6; 12-11-2007 at 09:08 PM. Reason: comprehensibility |

Right now I am planning on buying the Samsung dual format player because it's the only player I know of that will do what I need (decode DTS-HDMA internally and send out via 7.1 analog). So I will have an HD-DVD player sitting in my rack and yet I STILL don't see a reason to buy HD-DVD... I see it as a dead format.

I don't like the term "neutral". I own and HDDVD player, because I want to watch new releases in high definition. But I admit that my BD player gets used at least 10 times more often then my HDDVD player, and I have never spent money on an HDDVD (I got 5 free with purchase of my player). I have purchased three BDs (POTC). I am mostly a renter. I only watch exceptional movies more than once. I continue to upgrade my HT hardware to keep up with BD specs, and I am IMPATIENTLY awaiting the arrival of a 2.0, DTSHD-MA bitstream player (I have no intention of upgrading my A20).
I'm not sure you Blu Bloods can really have a true appreciation of the superiority of the BD format, if you do not occasionally have the opportunity to experience HDDVD on your own equipment. There simply is no comparison in AQ or title selection. By the way, most of the exclusive new releases on HDDVD have sucked. Even Transformers was a borderline quality movie. HDDVD is a disappointing format. |

Are neutral collectors not concerned about audio quality? Audio is a big reason i prefer BD and another reason i would not buy HD-DVD. Normally early adoptors are people who like to keep up to date with the latest tech and with regards to hi-def that includes not only picture but SOUND.
