Hello everybody

I have finally decided to start the shopping process for my first blu-ray player. I came to this board wanting to learn more about what I should be looking for and after reading some of the posts. I can tell many people know there stuff about these players.

I currently own a 50" Sony SXRD KDS-50A2000, and I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on what players I should be looking at. Is my tv one of the better picture qualities out there? I was thinking of keeping it all sony and go with the The Sony BDP-S300.. is this a good player? or should I be looking at something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Icon.

That Sony is a fine player. You should also look at the PS3 - don't make the mistake I did and dismiss it for being a gaming console.

Lots of info about the PS3 and other players on here if you poke around a little.

Welcome Icon!,

This is a great Forum and Blu-ray Community to help you in any way.

This is a great place to research and get mass expert advice.

As for what Player...

I have a PS3. I Bought it in Feb. 07'

I absolutely love my PS3 and will be buying a 2nd very soon.

Reasons why I love my PS3 is because it is the most comprehensive Blu-ray Player out there. and for $300 that is a great deal (Deal Via, Sonystyle.com $100 off of 1st Purchase of $399.99+, Upon credit approval.)

I actually watch more movies than I play games. Some food for thought.

Just research the numerous threads and ask a lot of questions.

Good Luck on your Quest!

You won't be Disappointed!

Go Blu!

I second the PS3. Just buy the 40 GB PS3 and you won't regret it. It is the fastest, most robust, most upgradeable player out there!! The only thing it doesn't have is analog outs but who uses that anymore

I would recommend the PS3, even if you don't use it much for games, it is VERY upgradeable.

...and welcome to the site!

Icon...I too would recommend the PS3 as it is upgradeable and if you have a wireless network at home getting the firmware updates is extremely easy or you can get them off the internet via your PC. If you buy the PS3 (which comes with 5 Blu-ray discs still) I would upgrade the firmware first thing which will allow the PS3 to upconvert all your "old" DVD movies. Check out www.sony.com and go to PS3 section. Also visit the Playstation store to get familiar with the types of "Free" media you can gain access to via the PS3. Even if your not a gamer, and you buy a PS3 you can download demo's for free and try it out? Have fun and one last note: When I bought my PS3 I started to really appreciate my 55" Sony because of all the new Hi-def media that I could access via the Playstation store.

The PS3 is also a beast. Many BD movies give a load time warning of a few minutes. The PS3 makes it only a few seconds.

I never used anything other than a PS3 and when I heard there were load times in the Minutes I was Dumbfounded!

I guess I am just really Spoiled that I have a PS3!

I can't imagine a load time like that since my PS3 really just loads less than 5-7 Seconds!

Great SUCCESS!

Good Luck!

Wow I never knew that. That kind of sucks for non PS3 owners.

Do HD-DUD players have loading time as well?

Hi, also I will say welcome to the site and I agree that the PS3 is a great machine! The fastest load times available is just one of the positives.
