Default newbie here

so for a long time I've used a pretty generic 55 inch samsung brand tv that isn't good at all, ghosts during fast moving action scenes, blacks look slightly gray,

and I've been using with it, some high end pc speakers (logitech z5500's) and I've actually been quite content and still am quite content with what I have been experiencing so far. sounds great, looks great, espescially if I'm watching animated movies...

but I'm considering revamping my entire setup.

so what should I look for?

two things:

my room is very very small. I can easily fit some big speakers and a 55 inch tv, but in terms of acoustics, my room just isn't big at all. not sure if that matters in terms of what kind of new speakrs I could or should get

I'm currently using a ps3 to watch my movies, and the pc speakers I mentioned are hooked up directly to my television, using an optical audio output cable.

anyways, in terms of my questions I would like answered:

what are 'bookshelf' speakers and I noticed they are usually paired. do people simply listen to movies with two bookshelf speakers and one subwoofer? would two good bookshelf speakers paired with a subwoofer hooked up to a decent a/v receiver sound better then my setup? because I think my setup does actually sound amazing, but I've no idea if I could be doing a lot lot better...

You could build your self a pretty decent 3.1 system starting out and evolve it over time when money allows I started out just like you with a 55inch and pc speaker's. How much are you looking on spending?
