Question invelos.com-- home of DVD Profiler collection catalog software

I bought this program a couple years ago to catalog my movie collection. I chose it because it was a good program with a very active user base, though rarely updated. I've been pretty happy with it for the most part.

But...their website (http://www.invelos.com) has been down a couple days and it's been quite vexing. There's a stack of recently purchased movies I'd like to add, but with their website down, it won't sync, download and update the titles.

Does anybody know what's going on?

Thanks,
Jason

I'm also having issues connecting to site, really hope they haven't gone out of business as I use this to archive all of my DVD's and Blu-rays.
It was working fine before Christmas, but now I can't connect to Database or add titles to my collection.

It isn't uncommon for their site to go down, even for several days at a time. Nobody is saying why it's down this time, but I expect it to come back online.

Eventually, it will go offline forever. At first, I liked the pay-once-upgrade-forever pricing model, but as physical media collecting declines in popularity, they have no revenue for modernizing or maintaining the app or servers. The iPhone app is especially broken and has been for a while, compared to the desktop and Android apps.

When I bought DVD Profiler back with version 2, I preferred it over Collectorz because of the pricing model and how it curated its profile catalog. I bought Collectorz for other database types. In the last few years, that company has improved their apps and the app-website integration considerably. They also seem to listen to customer feedback and feature requests. Also, they've played fair so far with their fallback licenses if you don't want to renew your subscription every year.

I am not looking forward to the day when I need to export my collection from DVD Profiler and import it here or to CLZ, but each time Invelos goes down, that day grows closer.

My Movies is much better, and you can import the whole collection from DVD Profiler.

This might be wishful thinking, but Invelos is based out of Virginia and they just got hit by a big winter storm. That might be the reason the website is down.

That saying, I’m also going to look into My Movies. DVD Profiler hasn’t been updated in close to five years and like previously mentioned, it’s only a matter of time when the website doesn’t come back up.

I hope so...fingers remain crossed. Quite a few users are discussing the outage on a Facebook group for the program. Interesting read:

Otherwise, CollectorZ or MyMovies ? What's the consensus on which one's the best? Cost is not an issue.

I have around 4000 titles (UHD, Blu, HD-DVD, dvd's) and love the fact that the majority are found in DVD Profiler. For me, the most important issue is 3-D Blu-ray support since it's the only reason I started cataloging my collection. And it was easy for a neophyte like myself to add profiles for a few dozen 3D blu-rays from Brazil and Asia not found in the database.

(BTW, it'd be nice if there was support for laserdiscs and hard cover books-- am I asking too much? Guessing I'll have to get another program for books.)

I use Collectorz and CLZ for books. Desktop/Mobile/Web integration is excellent. Very nice to be able to scan items into my collection using the phone camera.

I like that there is a rich set of pre-defined personal fields that you can set, like item location or box number, if you keep collectables in storage. I extensively use the "series" field to sort books by series order. The version I'm using does not support multiple series, however, so you can't say, Book 2 of the 2nd trilogy and Book 5 of the master series at the same time. I also like that you can have multiples of an item, either multiple copies of the same item, or multiple instances of the same ISBN with different covers and publication dates.

The "core" database has a lot of errors in it and you're gonna have to do a lot of title and author editing to get things right. Edited books usually show up with the editor as an author, or have just one author listed as primary author. Names are reversed, last name first, or in all caps. That sort of thing. Cover scans are frequently wrong. You can try to push your changes back up to the "core" database, but I don't think there is much community interest in curation, the way there is for DVD Profiler.

What's best will depend on the person I use MyMovies because it was the first software I found that I liked.

As for books I use the Mylibrary app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...hl=en_US&gl=US not sure if it's available on the Iphone or not.

Thumbs up

It's back up, TG ! Quickly updating my new purchases. But I will seriously look at other programs just in case. Nothing wrong with hedging our bets, rights?

Thanks everyone,
Jason

Ironically, I turned on my PC for the first time in days to log the latest additions to my collection and it didn't work. Glad to hear it's back up.

It's back down... this is frustrating. Regarding the question about which is better, clz or My Movies... I think My Movies has a better detailed database. It even sorts the episodes in tv series. Just my two cents... In DVD Profiler, you buy a Triple pack movie like say... "Old" 4k/Bluray/Digital, then the database says you have two movies when it's just one UPC code. That's always bugged me. I've akways felt that a child profile is only for BOX SETS with multiple titles. My Movies keeps this sorted as well. One profile for both discs.

Yeah, on the Facebook forum, someone speculated it would crash again with everybody jumping on. At least we know somebody at Invelos is working behind the scenes.

I was able to bring my collection up-to-date. So I was probably one of the culprits.

Appreciate the thoughts on MyMovies. I'll definitely start playing with it. And I agree with your sentiments on child profiles being counted as a separate title in DVD Profiler. It really skews you from tabulating an accurate count .

There is a "Count As" setting in your personal profile tab for that. it's just that I don't think it gets uploaded along with contributions.

I also love the ability to scan in new movies with my barcode reader.
Do the other applications offer this?

I'm old school, and love hearing that beeping sound when I scan a new move into my collection.

Pretty much. Any barcode appears to scan nicely into every Windows program I've ever used--- speadsheets, word processors, websites, etc...

Or do you mean other movie catalog programs? I would assume so. I did use a trial program of a movie catalog program I tried before DVD Profiler. The name escapes me at the moment, but the barcode scanner worked fine with it.

The CLZ apps scan barcodes with your phone's camera, then sync collections between mobile, web, and desktop.

Invelos and DVD Profiler seem to have stopped working. Down for about 24 hours now.
