Japan Dellamorte Dellamore (Happinet)

Received my copy today. Haven't gone through the entire disc, but it looks terrific (to me). Removable Japanese subtitles. Oddly the opening credit image looked awful, but then the movie proper begins, and it's great. Now I can bury my German disc.

Edit: The extras include three ported featurettes, all in Italian with only optional Japanese subtitles. Two are retrospectives, about 15 and 30 minutes each. The last is from the time of filming and lasts about 15 minutes. Included also is a trailer and a photo gallery, ending with pics of prior video releases. I wish I understood Italian or could read Japanese.

This is one of my favorite horror films, and I can't wait until I watch it late one of these week nights.

Any chance on seeing some screen captures? I have the german blu-ray release and it looks pretty good to me. If this is truly an improvement, it would be nice to see how it compares.

It looks like they still don't have the Intergroove version, which (to me) appears to be a port of the Italian blu.

I doubt you have the same German disc I have. Mine looks ripped from an old VHS tape. Not kidding.

Cannot provide screen grabs. Very good, rich color and very solid blacks. The review average on Amazon Japan was four stars as of yesterday.

I have the Italian Blu-ray, which is quite good other than being region B locked. Is the Japanese disc an upgrade?

Wow.. that must be the 84 Entertainment version. I have these 3 from this page:

All of them use the same source, as the second 2 even have the same menu as the Intergroove (with the red band on top).

While I don't have the Japanese blu-ray for this film (I have the Italian bd), I can vouch for Happinet as a company overall. I have their Romero Dead trilogy (Night, Dawn and Day) on bd as well as Creepshow 2 bd. They generally used BD-50's with decent bitrates. Also, Japan is region A and Amazon.jp orders get to you within 2-4 days after you place the order (even in the U.S.). I waited 3 weeks to get my Italian version from Amazon.it. If I didn't already own the film, I'd place the order for the Happinet blu-ray right now.

My German disc is...

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Della...Blu-ray/23937/

It is rubbish.

I can't make a comparison to those above.

As for the Happinet disc: The crappy-looking credit before the movie starts is for DARC, Angelo Rizzoli Distribuzione Cinematografica. Without this credit, the film runs 1.43.07 starting with title "TILDE CORSI presenta" and ending about a second after end credits music concludes. There are 21 chapters.

AVC, for the record, the bit rate is low at first, single digits for opening dark scene, then sports high 20s to low 30s for most of the rest I skimmed, esp. high for daylight scenes, some dipping into teens for night. I don't go crazy about these numbers; I only post them here as a possible point of comparison to anyone interested.

And my Amazon Japan order took three days to get to me. DHL.

I received the Japanese release yesterday, and I have to agree that it is terrific. I haven't done a side-by-side comparison with the Italian disc, and it's been a while since I watched it, but I was impressed by the high definition transfer on this Japanese disc. It has deep blacks and a nice film-like appearance. Unlike the Italian disc, it has a matrixed 5.1 English audio track; however, the original audio is also present.

Probably going to get this as it is region A.

Question....how are the transfers on Dawn and Day Hapinet editions? I already have Night's Hapinet, and for the sequels I have the Arrow editions that have other cuts of Dawn on DVD, and Day's which is on Blu. I also have Day's Scream Factory version. Any info will help.....thanks.

Did anyone get a chance to compare these? I'd love to pick this up if it's worth the money.

Sorry, I didn't see your question until now. Dawn has all three cuts on blu-ray for better or for worse. There are pros and cons with all of the blu-ray releases of Dawn (I have Arrow, Happinet, Umbrella and AB). Day is an easier answer. The Happinet release has a higher bitrate than the Anchor Bay blu-ray. It is similar to the Arrow blu-ray in terms of color, aspect ratio, etc. The Scream Factory version is very slightly cropped, changes the color scheme (for better or worse) but contains the theatrical audio in stereo if I recall correctly. There isn't a definitive release of any of the three Romero films unfortunately. I would recommend the Happinet versions of the sequels for die hards if they can get them for a reasonable price. I paid a premium by preordering and wish I hadn't.
