Default List of all 4K, UK remasters anywhere please ?

Hi is there a list anywhere of all of the 4K mastered or remasterd std Blu Ray discs anywhere please, net or here.

Why they don`t get a grip, do that as a rule on B,Ray and reduce prices and really get std BRay properly moving is a mystery to me.

Having just seen the 4K restored Spartacus, why on earth muddy the waters with Ultra HD when usual HD can give you results like this.

Thanks SN.

Whilst I do agree Spartacus does indeed look fantastic along with other 4k remasters, I am a bit confused. If you are saying that 4k on 1080p looks great enough and doesn't need Ultra HD then 2K restorations would also look fabulous. Hundreds of releases are also scanned at 2k

Rocky, Fargo, Rain Man, RoboCop, The French Connection and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly had remasters. Those are the ones I can think of from.the top of my head

There's also ones Arrow have released like Withnail & I

Ghostbusters and II. Didn't they both have this?

Kingsmen?

I'm guessing a little here from faded memory

Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II are both from 4K masters, apart from the initial release of Ghostbusters.

Kingsman received a 2K master, so that isn't one.

It may be wrong thread for this and in which case I apologize but can someone explain the difference between scanning at 2k and 4k? Does 4k mean it is UHD but downscaled for bluray?

Yes. Although there is a difference between 4K and UHD. 4K has a resolution of 4096x2160 whereas UHD has a resolution of 3840x2160.

The same is true regarding 2K and HD, 2K res generally is 2048×1080 whereas 'Full' HD is 1920x1080.

From a 4K master to a 1080p Blu-ray, it is downscaled, but due to the higher scanning resolution, more image information is captured than scanning at 2K, even though you downscale to 1080p, the additional information is transferred.

A 2K scan of 35mm film is usually 2048 x 1556. 4K is 4096 x 3112 (I think!). The higher second figures are because the negatives are 1.37:1 with 35mm not 16:9 like our Blu-rays, so they have a lot more height. The image is then extracted from that. When they extract the image from a 2K scan depending on the way the film they usually blow it up slightly to get to a 1920 x 1080 image, but with a 4k scan that same image is downscaled, so not only is the scan a higher resolution the results should look superior as well.

It's also preferable, although more expensive to do restoration work at the higher 4K resolution as well.

Are 3K resolution scans done on different equipment, MichaelB? I know something like the Spirit 4K scanner has 2K real-time and 4K scan modes, but where does a 3K scanner fit in?

Thank you for all the titles etc.

Hoping Oliver and The Great Escape get done.

I won`t be going to ultra HD, 4k scanned std Blu Ray is way good enough. Even upscaled DVD looks pretty good 10 feet wide to me.

Its a shame when they drop a clanger on really good films like say Last of the Mohicans, all muggy and dark etc. The DVD had better colour, and also definition in darker scenes.

Best SN.
