How is this? It looks like it's pretty interesting, but I've heard that, in terms of what's animated, that S1 ends on a pretty massive cliffhanger, and that rootA (or whatever the second season is called) is really disappointing.

Season 1=Mediocrity that could have possibly been decent if they took their time. They tried to cram WAY too much content into one cour (It was like 66 chapters in 12 episodes), continuing the trend of adaptations cramming too much into too small of a space.
Season 2=Absolutely atrocious, has even worse pacing, and focuses WAY too much on the fighting. It's a very huge mess that was beyond salvation. Easily among the worst anime I've ever seen. If you're to try it, and you're not a completionist like myself (Pain, so much pain), bother with only season 1. Season 2 is not worth it really at all. |

I tried to get into this show, but ended up dropping it after the first three episodes. I get why the main character is anguished, but he was anguished to the point of bogging the show down. I was also watching it alongside One Punch Man, which has gorgeous, clean and fluid animation and so every time I went back to Tokyo Ghoul's stiff, wooden and cheap looking animation I was even more repulsed.
