Default Flyinmunkys Budget dedicated Home Theater (WIP)

Hello All

Bought my first house about a month ago and have been doing it up.

Last room to complete is one of the main reasons i bought it. The house had a extension with a small room at the back roughly 4m x 3.5m. This is not attached to anyones property, looking forward to turning the sub up

The below pictures are just for starters and will be updated this week. I have since cleared and painted the entire room black, including door.

Most of my money has gone on new kitchen, bathroom etc.. so this will be a budget set up for now.

Looks messy i know

Tasks left to Do:
* Obtain and install black out blinds and curtains for one small window and one large.
* Build a shelf for Projector
* Fix projector Screen to wall
* Fix speakers to wall
* Cut speaker cable for front 3 speakers. Making sure roughly same length.
* Get Black carpet fitted, run speaker cable under carpet across skirting board.
* fix flush ceiling light.

My current equipment is as follows:

Epson tw5500
92" matte white 16:9 manual screen with black casing.
Logitech Z5500 THX 5.1. (great budget speakers, DTS and awesome sub)
PS3 Slim 160GB
3 seater black leather sofa

I will be update this thread with a more complete look over next few days i hope

Any advice on blacking out windows would be helpful

Updated with pics of black paint.

Did a final coat and room looking pretty black now.

*Bought a black panel cover for double plug socket. Screen is on that wall and not going to use so will hide it.

*Bought a black shelf and brackets from B&Q to mount projector on. Dont trust this single story extension ceiling to support a projector.

Screen to go up tomorrow i hope

Congrats on the new Home!!!

I look forward to seeing your place when you think you are done.
I'm pretty sure you know what I mean, when I said 'think'...

By the way, you can place your pics in your gallery instead of updating the first post.

Well today i finished putting up 5.1 speakers (logitech z5500) and i attached the screen to wall....

Sadly the screen has quite alot of curl on the sides so was quite

Hoping if i leave screen down for few days may straighten

On a better note i blacked out one window with stick on black out material and curtains and this does the job

Pictures to follow soon. Tried taking some with my phone but as the room is so dark now i need camera with flash

Things left to do...

* Projector shelf
* speaker cables
* black carpet
* get sofa in there
* Black out other small window
* Monitor projector screen and hope it get better.
* get a Bluray storage unit

Well speakers and screen are now up. Also completed shelf for projector.

My camera sucks but you get the idea. Ran out of speaker wire that i bought so ordered a 20m roll.

Will be testing Projector tomorrow, fingers crossed shelf is level and screen starts to straighten out.

The circle marks on the pic are from the camera :s

Updated images***Screen shown above is goooooone.

Have not updated my thread in ages

* Got rid of cheap screen and bought a beamax fixed screen 92", best choice i ever made. No more waves or lines or imperfections in screen. Beautiful flat image now

When the lights are off you can only see the screen pretty much so very happy with the paint.

The only bad thing is this has made me buy lots more blurays so my wallet crys

Not sure what next upgrade will be. Im happy with my Epson tw5500. Surround sound system will be next change although i have no complaint about my current set up.

Looks good man. I rent so I couldn't paint my room black, so what I did was cover all of the walls and ceiling in overlapped black bed sheets.

I noticed in your gallery that you have all of the Song of Ice and Fire books. Do you think we'll ever get The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring?

Thanks. I have read some preview chapters of winds of winter on GRRM website. Really cant wait.

I was lucky that i only got into them when GOT started on TV. Would have been a pain to wait so many years between the rest of the books.

I bought Season 1 on BD and after I watched it, that is when I started reading the books. I read them almost day and night until I finished them.

Well my bluray bookcase is almost full and was thinking what to get to expand the space....I then had a idea. I currently have a long sliding door cupboard which is not used for anything, just junk leftover from doing my house up.

So the plan now is to remove the doors and make this a massive open bluray storage with a fish tank in the middle

...and very very basic plan (excuse the mspaint )

Going to make a start on this next week. As im rubbish at DIY it should be fun.

Well its been a while and this week i have been moving the room around to make future upgrades possible. Pics to follow this week.

*Repainted Room walls

*Have moved projector screen to other wall as can go from 92" to 110" if i desire in future. This also leaves more room for speakers.

* Have retired my Logitech Z5500 and ordered Q Acoustics 5.1 speaker package and yamaha rx-v375 av receiver.

Hardware Upgrade route plan:

Q-Acoustics 5.1 and AVR ---->New 3D projector (possibly Sony 55es or its follow up) ----> 110" screen.

Hoping my ears hear a difference between my logitech Z5500 5.1 and a proper AV set up.
