Playback Software for Mac?

What software is available for playback on a Mac (G5)? And can that software output a signal out from the Mac to a monitor?

Apple will add Blu-Ray & HD-DVD support in their next OS upgrade (OS X 10.5) this year.

Keep in mind that HDCP support (video card, monitor/display) will be required to view commercial movies over a digital connection.

I'm pretty certain they will since Apple is a part of the BDA.

Apple rules. I'm currently running a "hackintosh" and plan to buy a Mac as soon as they start selling them with Leopard (and hopefully a BD drive)...

Yeah, but it's not backwards compatible, so most monitors that are out do not meet that standard. So, i wouldn't be able to throw a BD drive in my Mac Pro and use it for BDs unless i get a different monitor.

You can watch BD on any television/monitor only it will be down-sampled to a lower resolution by default if it lack HDCP.

Well sell you monitor and get a new one. 24" 1080p x 1920 HDCP computer monitors can be had for $650 now. By Christmas, who knows?

Now, you also need to get a HDCP video card and all the other stuff too

I was a little disappointed that it was not included when leopard was released, but I am really really hoping they announce a new Mac Pro at macworld with optional blu-ray drive which would undoubtedly come with a software update for play back. heres to hoping

its looking for someone to develop player software for mac. im really hoping someone develops one soon!

$650? I just bought a 24'' HDCP compliant monitor for $370 with another $20 mail in rebate. with the costco warranty as well :-)

im probably gonna get the fastmac bluray drive and throw it in an external case or in my G4 dual processor. I guess my only option would be linux since I can't do boot camp or parallels.

My understanding is that HD Video and Blu-Ray has been supported since Tiger (10.4). What I think you're looking for is HDCP support and as you already have the HDCP monitor I think you're 1/3 of the way there. Expect news early in 2008.

unless you are aware of a 3rd party program im not, I dont think Tiger supports blu-ray. Ive read that you cannot author blu-ray videos (no matter the source) and there are no blu-ray playing or ripping software solutions for mac. but I know there are programs that you can burn to blu-ray disc (toast 8)

I just want to find out if I dump a bunch of ps3 compatiable files onto a data blu-ray disc, or even DVD, if the ps3 would be able to play it.
