What software is available for playback on a Mac (G5)? And can that software output a signal out from the Mac to a monitor?

That’s the rumor.
Keep in mind that HDCP support (video card, monitor/display) will be required to view commercial movies over a digital connection. |

Yeah, but it's not backwards compatible, so most monitors that are out do not meet that standard. So, i wouldn't be able to throw a BD drive in my Mac Pro and use it for BDs unless i get a different monitor.

You can watch BD on any television/monitor only it will be down-sampled to a lower resolution by default if it lack HDCP.

im probably gonna get the fastmac bluray drive and throw it in an external case or in my G4 dual processor. I guess my only option would be linux since I can't do boot camp or parallels. |

My understanding is that HD Video and Blu-Ray has been supported since Tiger (10.4). What I think you're looking for is HDCP support and as you already have the HDCP monitor I think you're 1/3 of the way there. Expect news early in 2008.

I just want to find out if I dump a bunch of ps3 compatiable files onto a data blu-ray disc, or even DVD, if the ps3 would be able to play it. |
