Default Black border on edges on Benq w1070 and PS4

So I see a 1 inch black border on the edge of my projected area. I thought maybe it was a setting in the ps4, but I checked that and it's out all the way.

I checked in the w1070 menu, but nothing seemed like the right setting.
I searched this forum and didn't find anything (thought it's possible I missed it).

I do run my PS4 HDMI out to my receiver, the Yamaha 663, then out from there to the projector.

Any owners of the w1070 and PS4 know how to "fix" this?
For clarity, I'm not talking about aspect ratio changes (black bars on top/bottom from wider screen movies). It's a 1 inch edge on the sides and top/bottom.

Are you sure you are zoomed out or have the projector far enough back to fill up your screen? Or does this only occur with the PS4 as the video source? Check to make sure your HDMI video and 1080p on the PS4. Check under 3D or screen settings and tell the system how big your screen actually is for viewing.

The whole wall is (currently) white. So the 1 inch edge (all 4 sides) I'm seeing is always there. I'm going to try another video source, and then also direct video to the projector (instead of to the receiver then to proj). I'll double check the Benq 1070 settings, but I didn't see anything there for that.

I think what silentbob is refering to is the zoom shift on the projector itself. Does sound like its not zoomed out far enough to fill the screen.

There is a zoom knob and a sharpness knob by the lense.

Get a test pattern that shows the edges of 1080P. Then project that. If you can see the edges of 1080P and there is still a 1" gap then you need to zoom.

There is a few discs that have 1080P edge test patterns. There might be some you can just download and put onto USB as well. I'm not to sure where to get them tho.

Right now, the whole wall is white (primed).

So if I zoom in/out (then focus), the 1" edge is always there.
I did determine, it's the actual projector, as the BenQ w1070 has a test pattern, and the 1 inch "edge" (dark area) is also there (so not related to my ps4 or receiver).

Again, since the whole wall is white, zooming in/out really doesn't matter. Once I paint the wall black (leaving the screen area white) then I don't think it'd be visible.

I went into the 1070 menu's again, and I do see some stuff like "position" but it's disabled. Not sure if that could be it or not. But at least I know it's the projector and not related to my ps4/receiver.

It's called light spill. It is very common. Some projectors are better than others. It is where you get reflected light that goes past the generating picture panel. In your case the DLP chipset.

My Projector cost me US$25K and it has a small amount of it. In my situation the black level is soooooo damn dark the spill is mute.

Once you get a screen with a black border any light spill will be killed by the border. So don't worry about it. Like I said it is normal.

Badas,

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if something like that was the case.
I know some people use a wood frame with velvet like material for the edge of screen (if painted).

I get it now. Thanks!
