I think the real question is does DTS HD MA actually even appear on any HD DVDs?

There's a number of titles that use it on HD DVD. Chronos and Nature's Journey come to mind as far as US releases, and I hear Studio Canal uses DTS-MA on their releases in Europe.

This is really good news.....

People have been asking for lower priced stand alone players for a long time.

What will Toshiba do when Blu-ray players gets even cheaper and what can they do??

From everyone's favorite BW article:

Quote:
The Blu-ray faction insists there is no burning reason for it to match HD DVD's prices. "We think Warner will respond to the fact that our greater number of titles gives us a greater likelihood of being the single standard," says Andy Parsons, who leads the Blu-ray lobbying effort. But another executive backing Blu-ray, who didn't want to be identified, expects the imminent arrival of a sub-$300 Blu-ray machine.

New Line's Hairspray BD uses DTS-HD MA. I'm assuming that the HD DVD encode will do the same.

Much to their chagrin, yes it does. Look at Nature's Journey on HD-DVD for instance.

Pan's Labirynth has DTS-HD-MA for both formats. It may be a first for HDDVD?!?!

If I recall from the list someone did in another thread to compare audio quality on the two formats, DTS HD MA is on exactly two HD DVDs...

Best Buy is actually showing DTS HD MA video advertisements on their screens! lol It was hilarious to see that today.

Of course, on HD DVD, it's only DTS-HD, not "MA", because Richard didn't have enough space on the HD DVD to provide full lossless audio.

Maybe this thread should be called, Toshiba goes from no-legged man, to man with no arms and no legs.

Default Update from amazon

I went back to amazon today and checked my kart. The seller with the $245 samsungs sold out, so the price went back up to the amazon price of $270. Interestingly enough, the price of all the HD DVD players also moved up. I wonder how closely Toshiba is monitoring prices at retailers and offering incentives and kickbacks to keep the preception that HD DVD is cheaper. Apperently, very closely.

I saw a report from nielsen that Salt Lake City is the market with the market which has the biggest movie fans, most movies watched in theaters and highest frequency of movie purchases per capita. I also remember from the firesale that Utah has anti-dumping laws. Seems like the perfect battleground state to force HD DVD to compete on the merits, if you know what I mean.

This is a losing proposition for Tool-shiba. With players and PS3 combined, we can expect to see 3 million BD units by Christmast. Verses a total combined of 1 million units for players and 360 add-ons for HD-DVD.

The numbers are just too vast to over come, especially when they lack any studio support from Disney. 3:1 is quickly becoming the norm - favor BD.
