So right now I have the Pioneer Andrew Jones Atmos speakers that I had bought with a Pioneer SC-87. I returned the receiver when I found out that it couldn't do 7.1.4.
I'm now left with the Atmos speakers but no receiver to use them So I've decided to get the Pioneer SC-95 as it can do 7.1.4 with an external amp. My dilemma is, should I get an ext amp for the back surrounds like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-M-5010-2...ereo+amplifier The wattage on this one seems only enough for the Surrounds, right? Or should I get something better and use the ext amp for my fronts? Maybe a 3 channels amp, if such a thing exists? I live in a townhome with 1 common wall so I don't blast the sound when watching movies. So would an amp for the front 3 be worth it? My only limitation is that my AV rack is pretty full so I can only get an ext amp not taller than 6 inches. What do ya all think? |

Generally when people use external amps with their AVR's, they power the front three. You should make sure your Pioneer has assignable amps first before buying.
I only say that because my AVR only does Atmos with the overheads being powered by an amp, no other configuration works. Go through your manual and make sure what the SC 95 is capable of. (nice avr, btw) |

Since I live in a Townhouse with 1 common wall and I'm trying to be nice to my neighbors, I try not to watch movies with the sound too loud so anything for the front channels would be overkill IMO.
I just ordered the Onkyo Stereo Amp for $170 all in. Now I just need to find the SC-95 ![]() Thanks for taking the time to answer ![]() |

You want 7.1.4 with a Yamaha, so that would be the RX-A3050, right? The 4 Atmos speakers can only be powered via external amplification. Meaning you need, at the very least, a four channel amplifier. You connect that to the pre-outs on the 3050 labelled "Zone 2/F Presence" and "Zone 3 r Presence". Those will be for your 4 Atmos speakers. You can add any number of amplifiers to supplement the power of the other channels, if you desire that. I haven't, but my room is small so it isn't necessary. I hope this helps you. |

Scarriere,
Yes, that's right. I like your okay idea. I have a power amplifier 8 ohms =125 watts per channel for 7 channels. AV/receiver amplifier weak sound because multichannel. It not enough power. I prefer I want better sound. I'll try it later. I'm busy work. I need ![]() ![]() Last edited by Opips3; 11-26-2015 at 01:10 PM. |

I wondered it very difficult setting speakers. I decided now use 7.1.2 because
It's very important stereo and 7 channels for me. I do on AV/receiver amp for stereo front R and L speaker are more power watts, other speaker 7 channels use on power amplifier is 7 channels. Total 7.1.2 for Atmos Dolby and DTS X. AV/receiver amplifer is weak on multi-channels. Most avg. 45 watts per channel there AV/receiver. Power amplifier is strong on multi-channels. Most 125 to 300 watts per channel. |

If what I read is, you've got a 7 channel 125watt amplifier, why not use 4 of those channels for the 4 height channels? Then use 2 of the 3 remaining, for surround L/R. Or use all three to power your L/C/R. That will put less strain on the 3050, not that it would be straining. So: 7X125 = 4X125 Height + 3X125 for L/C/R The 3050 would then be powering the surround and surround back, which it has plenty of power to do. Good luck and let us know what you do. |

2X150 from Yamaha 3050 amp is good stereo. 7X125 = 2 x125 height + 4X 125 surrounds + 1X125 for Centre I think...BIG sound. |

Sorry, what's wrong with me. I am so frustrated that Atmos Dolby setup speaker placement different to DTS X setup speakers.
Very interesting, Atmos Dolby is only two or four speaker ceiling or a speaker top on front speaker and speaker on top back speaker are all reflection to ceiling. DTS X is only add two or four extra for two speaker height front and two speaker height back. Stupid explain me. |

I have a problem with back surround left and right speakers are 100 watts max.
If,when Atmos Dolby decode will fine on bsr and bsl. If 7.1 decode audio is problem. I switch to receiver amp front speaker share with back rear speaker won't blow it. I have power amplifier 7 channels are 125 watts. I use front and centre, surround like traditional 5 channels I connected wire to Receiver amp for height speaker and back rear speaker. 6 channels Total 7.1.4 |
