Another Christian Bale movie which I can't wait to own. It's $17.99 now and receiving this on Tuesday.

Not a single post and this came out today? I had my eye on this for months but didn't blind buy because of best buy's T&S promo starting next week.

I saw it a few days ago. It was pretty good. More drama than action, but a likable cast, although I do agree with the reviewer that Christian Bale gave a "middling performance"; it didn't feel like he gave it his all all the time.

Tried to get the DVD from Netflix as I have had it in my queue for a month. Not only did they avoid sending it to me, but they still are not carrying the BD.

OK. Watched it, and even posted my review in the "user" section at Metacritic.

Don't go into this hoping it's an action flick. This is not a "Hero" or "House of Flying Daggers" martial arts/Wuxia flick. And just because it's a "war movie" doesn't mean it has to be non-stop action. Saving Private Ryan is mostly drama with an undercurrent of action, and so is this. If you want action, watch a Michael Bay movie or a Jason Stathom flick.

This is a Zhang Yimou movie (Curse of the Golden Flower, The Road Home...etc) so it's going to mostly be about drama, as it should. It's a film about the relationship between an American mortician (Christian Bale), teenage Chinese school girls, and Chinese prostitutes learning to respect one another during the Japanese invasion of China, and it's done so in a beautiful sort of melodramatic way. Hiding in a church, we take a journey with the characters as they get to know one another under stressful, war-time tension.

I was surprised when learning that Christian Bale would be play the American mortician, but he seemed to be more believable than I expected. It's worth a viewing, especially if you're a fan of Zhang Yimou's work.…

Since Netflix finally decided to carry the BD I have it arriving today. I'll probably write a review on it tomorrow or Thursday.

I guess they disappeared in just over a week. I've seen it happen before.

I paid $5.40 for my copy so I wasn't expecting a slipcover.

Yep, last night and it's an excellent film. Right up there with Zhang's other stuff.
