Thumbs up

Sorry I can’t comment on the region free part.

I have and love this player tho.

The Sony X700 I had was not reliable. And this player has HDR optimizer and does SDR2020.

I could test a remote control hack. I have a remote and some region 2 DVDs

Damn, that's a good price. I don't even have a 4K TV yet, but at this price, I might just go ahead and grab a player to have when I do while they're available. Only a few manufacturers are still making these right?

I decided to grab one. Might keep it in the box until I get a 4K TV when my plasma dies.

Ive got this player and only tested a few of my Region B discs on it, just insert the disc, wait for the this disc is region locked screen, press stop, then top menu button and there you go. It should be pretty good I think.

That is the "hack"-that is it? Seems simple enough. Makes me want to get this and I don't even need a new 4K player.

I possibly grab this tonight,

The Panasonic DP-UB820 If!!! down the price on black friday I bet is just $100, from $500 to $400, so the 420 for $150 sounds good deal.

The video is 3 mins.

No 11:02

Yes it doesn’t have Dolby vision... could be a factor. I use a projector and those won’t have DV anytime soon. Also there are some known bugs with DV.

I have this player (and a dedicated region-free machine, so I have a ton of Region B blu ray discs) and tested it on about 10 of them and it worked on 7 of the 10. So not fool proof, but still works a pretty good percent of the time.

Ive got a LG UP870 3D 4K UHD, i dont need streaming services and my LG OLED doesnt support DV.

Should i upgrade to this. Really wanted something with DV capabilities but i guess its not necessary since my TV doesnt support it right now.

Is this a big upgrade over my current player? Thanks

Does the 420 have the option to adjust subtitle luminance?

I recall both the 820 and 900 having that option.

I looked through the settings, but couldn't find anything like that.

I've had luck getting BDs from Studio Canal, Dazzler, and Acorn to play (it also does a great job with converting 1080i50 content without complaints).

The hard ones have been from Fox (plus their MGM releases) and CBS/Showtime's Californication complete series set from Scandinavia. Only indie I had a problem with was released by Optimum Home Entertainment in the UK. For these I have a LG player brought back from Spain.
