One theater in my area is showing it in IMAX 3-D. Looks pretty cool. Mandarin with English subtitles. |

We aren't getting many of those these days unfortunately, so my advice is to definitely see this theatrically if you can because I suspect it won't be long before this becomes another "No 3D Blu-ray" thread, sad to say.

One thing should be noted, the 3D in this film is not a native one, rather than render the two-eye images, they went for post conversion (and not a very good conversion). But thankfully they render the different layers for the conversion, so at least the 3D layers are decent, but the overall effects aren't as goos as I thought it should be.
I think the chance is very slim. Especially for mainland China, a new self-produced 3D blu-ray in mainland China now is highly unlikely... Last edited by qw0aszx; 08-29-2019 at 03:43 AM. |

I saw it in IMAX laser 3D tonight at a pretty full showing, and was kinda underwhelmed though it’s nice that this film gets to play theatrically in 3D in the US (I think it’s distributor Well Go USA has released a lot of 3D imports as 2D only).
The 3D was solid enough, though it did go into the milder level during the middle section of the film, but there were a few pop outs, as well as some strong 3D in the climax (though I do feel that climax sequence itself dragged on way too long). It also reminded me of animated movies from 10+ years ago, with somewhat dated or cheaper looking animation compared to the gorgeous stuff studios like Pixar put out now, forcing in pop culture references despite the setting (such as an early one to The Terminator during what should be the biggest plot moment in the first act), and lots of fart jokes and similar kid friendly gross out humor (not my kind of thing). It’s not without some charm and heart though (even if it goes a bit overboard on sentimentality near the end), and for English audiences (obviously not expected to be the biggest audience) I would say the font used for the subtitles (which blended in during some brighter scenes) as well as some quick dialogue sequences did make it harder to follow at a few points. |

Unfortunately NeZha was a little disappointing.
There's some nice separation between objects. Backgrounds sink deep into the screen but there were zero pop-outs. The entire movie took place at or behind the screen. So many missed opportunities here. Overall I'd give the movie and 3-D 2 stars out of 4. The 3-D was ok but it could have been so much better. I have to confess I did chuckle at some of the fart gags. ![]() |
