Wasn't this shot primarily on video, meaning it really wouldn't benefit from a Blu release?

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure how much it'll improve the quality but liked the movie, so I'll pick it up.

The only way I'll pick this one up is if the image fills the screen. There was no reason to box it in the way it was on the regular DVD. I can't possibly see any improvement other than that.

It was a decent movie. Nothing really scary but once I got what they attempted to do, it wasn't bad.

The Blair Witch Project was shot on 16mm and video with an aspect ratio of 1.33. It was blown up to 35mm and when I saw it in the theaters it was very square (4:3). Not sure this would be good on BD, other than you just love the film and must have it on BD.

I hated this movie! Horrible, boring and the video was SO bad! This can't possibly look good in HD!

I actually liked this movie. It was just killed by its own hype and marketing. During its initial 2 week limited run it built up such a huge a snowball of hype that by the time it opened up with a wide release it was a victim of its own marketing. There was no way it could live up to what everyone was saying about it.

However, even though I liked the film releasing it on Blu is kind of counterproductive. Although portions of the film were shot on 16mm I can't really see the benefit of having this title in HD since equal portions were shot with consumer quality SD video. You'll just have people complaining about how bad it looks. It's gonna be 28 Days Later all over again.

They need to put a large orange sticker/disclaimer on the video case that says "The film is supposed to look this way!"

YES!!!

The Blair Witch Project is my fourth favorite movie of all time.
it's also the greatest horror movie ever! (imo of course)

i was actually thinking, "this will probably never be released on blu because of how it was shot" and thinking about getting an empty blu case and putting my DVD in the case with a customer cover just to put in with my other movies and now i don't have to!

i don't care if it looks the exact same as the DVD or not. i would enjoy if it was full screen and not 4:3 but i'll take whatever i can get as long as i can buy this on blu!

EXCELLENT NEWS!
day 1 buy FOR SURE.

love it love it love it.

only horror movie that has ever scared me.
genuine terror, and the marketing for the film was EPIC.

Would be awesome if they could put a really great lossless surround track on this! All those spooky sounds in the forest would sound great.

There's nothing to tweak other than having the entire movie fill the screen. There's no reason to force it into widescreen as it wasn't shot that way. It should be made to be like found footage and not a movie.

Fill the screen the way it was in the theater.

Really? the marketing was very unique at the time, and probably still is the best marketing method of all time... the internet sites, the 'doccos', the interviews etc.. it sucked you in so well that when the film came out, you HAD to go see it. And millions of people did, and isn't it like the highest grossing film considering the budget?

Blair Witch is a fantastic piece of cinema.
[Show spoiler]I love the scenes with Josh yelling for help and heather and Mike trying to find him
spooky as hell.

In regards to a Blu-Ray release, I would just like to see some new interviews, commentaries and retrospective doccos. Load it with special features is what I say, considering its not going to look great.

that scene still gives me the creeps man..

everything about the movie is just heart pounding insanity and chaos..

i think the diolague was absolutely incredible

alot of really amazing quotes from that film

Like when heather is saying

shes afraid to keep her eyes open and shes afraid to close them

thats true fear right there man..

Special Features.. maybe some teaser for Blair Witch 3

just to amp the fan-base up a little and give Paranormal 2 a run for its money..

Who knows what they will do!
