Default Paramount/Universal under contract?

Well we all know Paramount is under contract, but is Universal?

I have heard people say they are but who knows. If they are under contract it truly is a sad state of affairs for HD DVD that they need a contract to get movies released on it. Meanwhile, Blu-ray has all of its studios on merit.

Aside from Toshiba and those who have invested into HD DVD ever so foolishly, who actually wants the inferior format to win?

The problem is that many people believe all this crap about there not being a picture difference between Blu and HD DVD. (prolly because of the warner movies that are HD DVD ports to Blu) We know better though, Pirates, Cars, and Ratatouille picture qualities are impossible on HD DVD.

Like the quote goes, "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist"

"The greatest trick HD DVD ever pulled was convincing the world a quality difference between HD DVD and Blu-ray doesn't exist"

Doubt Universal has a contract since they are co-chair of the HD-DVD Promo Group and have a relatively big stake in the format. Chairman/VP Graffeo has captained the Universal ship to the farthest realm of HD-DVD land, and he will have to be thrown overboard before Universal turns back.

Microsoft. They get royalties off of every HD-DVD player and disc sold. They only get royalties off the Blu-ray movies encoded using their codec, they get nadda on the rest.

On Merit that is BS. Sony Bought Columbia Tristar a long tima ago. Also Sony purchased just of MGM stocks so MGM would b exclusive to the bd format.

Columbia Tri-Star was bought long before the format war, so that doesn't count.

MGM was purchased so that it would be Blu-ray exclusive, but guess who releases MGM's catalog titles? That's right, not Sony, but Fox...

Not remotely. Studios cross pollinate content on networks all the time. That and, to my knowledge, Sony is the only major that doesn't have their own network.

Several MGM shows are aired on Universal networks (Sci-Fi), "House" is aired on FOX (even though it's a Universal show), "Journeyman" on NBC (Universal) is a FOX production. "Scrubs" on NBC is a Disney production, "The King Of Queens" which aired on CBS (Paramount) was a Sony show.

It means nothing...

You can't win that argument, when you bring out FaceOff, some says, that's just EE. EE my A**--- look at whites in Travolta's eyes!

When you show people the difference in the Nature Journey versions with difference maps and what is happening with the clouds in the sky, they say, well, that's using a tool, most people can't see the difference.

When you explain how the difference can be seen if you know what to look for, the argument becomes, most people have TVs that won't show the difference.

When you point out the trend in future HDTVs improving the video fidelity along with larger screens, it finally will become. It's good enough.

At that point, there's just no arguing with "good enough".

No Sony purchased MGM long before the format. The 007 movies are all MGM movies. Now Sony has the rights! it doesn't matter who releases the catalog titles as long as they are ...BLU

Too bad that Sony doesn't have its own TV network because they are prohibited by some government agency (I don't remember which one) b/c they would have some sort of monopoly given their diverse portfolio of TV shows, etc. I read this from some article a few years back.

IMO Toshiba doesn't want BD to win, that's why they came up with HD-DVD. IMO they don't really want that to win either, they want the really inferior format (DVD) to win until the patents expire. No doubt they will hope that all the industry will then come out with a common HD format (which BD was). The new format will of course heavily favour Toshiba as a price to stop a format war.

Many people think that Microsoft is using Toshiba to kill HDM in favour of downloads. I'm sure Microsoft think that too. Perhaps though Toshiba is using Microsoft (and it's reputation for shady practices) as a cover for it's own ends.
