just as the title suggests.
I am curious. I am on the verge of going into the laserdisc realm (waiting for a cheap player i like). obviously new movies (nothing past i think 2002) are not on laserdisc but you can get a ton of older movies and ones from disney that still retain all their detail thats gotten washed out on their current releases over time. You can find some laserdiscs for really good prices just a couple of bucks each and then you have the rare ones. I actually have two laserdiscs my sisters bought for me thinking they was some kind of records, well not really 2 its a disc 1 and disc 2 of two different superman movies but they bought them more for the image since I am a superman fan than the movie itself. i was just curious how much of a niche there still is for laserdiscs. |

I still have my laserdisc collection (350+), and keep them in rotation in my HT. I have tremendous affection for the laserdisc format.

Just a few... I've replaced them all with DVDs and blus as better editions came out, so the only ones I have left are the ones that aren't on DVD, or the laser has exclusive extras or whatever. So Star Wars, Cronenberg's Crash, that sort of thing. But I do hang onto those, yeah.

I used to have a moderate but very expensive collection back in the day. I ended up selling my double-sided Pioneer player and all discs for about $250.
The only titles I kept were the original huge Star Wars boxset and a Danny DeVito signed copy of War of The Roses. |

I still have approximately 40 laserdiscs and the player. Laserdiscs doesn't look very good on a big screen HDTV, they look much better on an old CRT. Considering the fact, I wouldn't start collecting laserdisc because of their inferior picture quality. People still buy laserdiscs and players on ebay as collector's items.

I still have my original 600 laserdiscs or so. I have 5 or 6 players packed away and one in my equipment rack, but to be honest I haven't really spun and watched one in years. I ripped to DVD all the ones that will probably never see the light of day on any other format.

I actually just bought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Movie sealed on laserdisc, been collecting them for years and have about 50-60 of em. I don't buy too much but there is nostalgia in watching them for me. Why else would of I bought a sealed Pan&Scan copy of Ninja Turtles hehe.

Since my player died a few years ago, I have started turning my remaining lasers into art. My collection was never huge as I got in after dvd back when their were many titles which didn't have dvds back then, like The Fog and Escape from NY commentary.
![]() I, or friends who had better knowledge/equipment, already transferred all content I needed to dvd-rs. |

I had over 2,000 lasers at one time but sold almost all of them.
I still own around 75, many of which still haven't seen the light of day on DVD or Blu-ray such as: The Alamo - Director's Cut The Incident The Borrower Sammy and Rosie Get Laid From the Earth to the Moon Journey Into Fear The Reincarnation of Peter Proud |

I used to own a moderate collection, but got rid of most of them around the time DVDs became the chosen format for movies. They were quite expensive for my budget back then, so I didn't have a massive collection, thank god there a few Laserdisc rental stores back then. I think my two favorites were Criterion's Blade Runner release and Fox's The Abyss (1989).

If I was rich, and I'm talking Adam Sandler rich, I would buy the coolest shelf with LED and store laserdiscs of my favorite movies. As a format, laserdiscs were flawed. But as collectibles, they are by far the greatest format in home video history. Each one is like a poster of the movie.
But it's a good thing that laserdiscs are not a topical format. Can you imagine all the shipping costs related to buying them online? ![]() |
